The summit will be held over the Martin Luther King, Jr., holiday weekend, January 15-16, 1994, at the Georgetown University Law Center, 600 New Jersey Ave., NW, Washington, DC. C-SPAN will broadcast portions of the summit nationwide to those unable to attend. To find out when the summit will air, viewers can call the C-SPAN Schedule Hotline at (202)628-2205. "At our Leadership Summit this January, GLA will develop plans to empower millions of gay and lesbian Americans to fight for our civil rights. We want to energize the gay and lesbian constituency" said GLA spokesperson Steven Reichert. "The purpose of the summit is to bring together gay and lesbian grassroots leaders who are interested in forming a national group with state and local chapters. Gays and lesbians from across America are encouraged to attend the summit. Advocates from beyond the Washington Beltway must realize they are our best hope for the future," added Reichert. Issues to be discussed include: establishing local chapters, utilizing computer bulletin boards to disseminate information, organizing phone-trees and letter-writing committees, and developing a gay and lesbian agenda, including sodomy-law repeal and passage of the federal gay and lesbian civil-rights bill. GLA is encouraging summit attendees to submit two-page proposals on structuring gla and which issues our agenda should include. Proposals should be mailed to GLA by January 7th, 1994, for consideration at the summit. Ann Northrop, a long-time lesbian leader from New York City, formerly of CBS News, will be the summit facilitator. Those interested in attending the summit are asked to notify GLA by January 7th. Letters of intent to attend should be mailed to GLA, P.O. Box 77533, Washington, DC 20013-7533. Space is limited and pre-registration is required.
