National Party says yes to gay rights The recently-formed National Party of Canada has replied positively to almost all questions on the EGALE questionnaire. Party leader Mel Hurtig responded with a clear YES to questions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15. (See list of questions on page x.) On questions relating to health, Hurtig said he would consider lesbian and gay health issues as part of a comprehensive review aimed at "restructuring and strengthening" federal health standards. Hurtig admitted he has not spoken publicly on sexual orientation issues, nor has he attended lesbian and gay community events. A former Edmonton publisher, Hurtig is best known for his crusade against free trade with the United States. 111 words
