Date: Sat, 28 Dec 1996 21:49:16 -0800 Reply-To: CLGLPP@aol.com The Center for Lesbian and Gay Law and Public Policy (215) 413-0509, FAX (215) 592-1782 PENNSYLVANIA PARTNERS SUMMIT: A statewide conference on same-gender couple=92s issues NOTICE: Save the date and join the Program Planning Committee March 29 and 30, 1997 The Center for Lesbian and Gay Law and Public Policy is proposing a one or two day statewide summit on the issue of same-sex couples=92 rights, same s= ex marriage, domestic partnership and partners issues. The Center invites Pennsylvania lesbian, gay and progressive organizations to name a representative to sit on the Program Committee. The Committee will establi= sh a program and determine logistics for the summit which would reflect the needs and priorities of lesbian, gay and progressive organizations throughout the state. THE AGENDA: The agenda would be set by the Program Committee. Possible topics include: =B7 We do we go from here? Marriage activism in a state that has banned same-gender marriage =B7 What we did and what we learned from the recent same-gender marriage legislative battle =B7 Potential legal implications of the Hawaii case for Pennsylvanians =B7 Lobbying for domestic partnership at the County, City, Borough and Town= ship level =B7 Lobbying for domestic partnership policies in private companies =20 =B7 Public education on the "components of marriage" (benefits and obligat= ions of marriage which are unavailable to same-gender couples) =B7 Co-ordination of statewide activities =B7 Strengthening relationships between lesbian and gay communities through= out Pennsylvania THE LOCATION, COST, LOGISTICS, ETC. The Program Committee, with the support of the Center, would determine logistics. State College is a traditional site for such state-wide meeting= s, though the Program Committee would determine the location depending on the needs of the participants. The Program Committee would also determine the cost for attendants taking into account the needs of the program and any potential fund-raising opportunities. The Program Committee will meet by state-wide teleconference. Members of the Program Committee will share the costs of setting up the teleconference, each contributing an initial $100.00 to fund the first round of teleconferences.
