The NBGLLF Announces Conference Highlights The National Black Gay and Lesbian Leadership Forum (NBGLLF) cordially invites you to its annual national conference, February 15 thru 18, 1996. This year, the conference theme, Black Gays and Lesbian: Continuing our Struggle both gives praise to what we have accomplished, and reminds us that our work is not yet complete. The conference will be held deep in the heart of Texas, in Dallas, at the Harvey Hotel Brookhollow, 7050 N. Stemmons, (214) 630-8500. What’s Planned: The conference begins Thursday evening, February 15, 1996, with an AIDS memorial service, to remember the many friends and family we have lost to the disease. Friday, February 16, 1996, there will be an all day AIDS/Health institutes. Also on Friday is the opening ceremony, which will include introduction of the new national board of directors, and a cultural celebration sponsored by the local host organization, UJIMA. On Saturday and Sunday February 17 thru 18th, there will be topics related to womyn’s and men’s issues, grassroots activism, spirituality, young adult issues, leadership and public policy. Highlights of the conference include the Annual Award Banquet and Dance on Saturday. Invited guest include Harvard Professor Cornel West, former Texas Congresswoman Barbara Jordan, and the current Dallas U.S. Representative Eddie Bernice Johnson. The NBGLLF is excited about this conference for many reasons. This will be the first conference in the state of Texas. This will also be the first conference following installation of a new national board of directors and an executive director. Continuing the theme of firsts, there will be two very special presenters. Drs. Sylvia Rhue and Dee Mosbacher will screen their new film, “All God’s Children,” a documentary response to the radical rights’ homophobic efforts in Black Churches. Additionally, best-selling author E. Lynn Harris will give the first reading anywhere of his new book, And This Too Shall Pass. How can you get There?
