Dr. Mott, a 48-year-old professor of anthropology at the Federal University of Bahia, is the founder and president of Grupo Gay da Bahia (GGB), a prominent gay and lesbian organization. As the president of GGB, Dr. Mott has documented human rights abuses against gay men and lesbians in Brazil - including some 1,200 murders committed since 1980. Working with the San Francisco based International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission, Dr. Mott is currently completing a book which details the results of these investigations. Under Dr. Mott's leadership, the GGB has succeeded in removing homosexuality from the list of diseases maintained by the Brazilian Government and has helped to secure civil rights protections for gay men and lesbians at the state and local levels. Most recently GGB has celebrated the recognition of marriage among gay men and lesbians by the Association of Professors at the Federal University of Bahia. Dr. Mott's appearance is being sponsored by Amnesty International Group 75 with the assistance of the First Existentialist Congregation of Atlanta. Group 75, founded in 1977, is Atlanta's oldest affiliate of the worldwide human rights organization Amnesty International. Members of Group 75 through their letter-writing campaigns, petitions and public events are actively involved in human rights work. An important part of their activities is their monthly meeting which combines a potluck dinner with an informational program or human rights action. Persons interested in finding out more about Amnesty International are encouraged to attend these meetings. - --------------------- Headers ------------------------ >From mmerlin@netcom.com Sat Jun 4 13:56:00 1994 Received: from netcom.netcom.com by mailgate.prod.aol.net with SMTP (1.37.109.4/16.2) id AA21546; Sat, 4 Jun 94 13:56:00 -0400 Return-Path: Received: from [198.211.59.34] by netcom.netcom.com (8.6.8.1/Netcom) id KAA00732; Sat, 4 Jun 1994 10:55:43 -0700 Message-Id: <199406041755.KAA00732@netcom.netcom.com> X-Sender: mmerlin@netcom.com (Unverified) Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Date: Sat, 4 Jun 1994 13:57:52 -0500 To: GLAADATL@aol.com From: mmerlin@netcom.com (Marc S.
