Perry J. Watkins. Friend to many, a deeply concerned American dedicated to the lifting of the military "don't ask - don't tell" ban, Watkins will be remembered for his persistence and avid belief that men and women must be judged on performance, loyalty, honesty and commitment in service to their country not their actual and/or perceived sexual orientation. Karl Clark, Acting President of AmFedVets said "This loss in a set-back for us in someways but in others its another bright and vivid light in a long dark tunnel that is leading this nation along and to the path of tolerance, acceptance and cooperation. Perry's life has given many of us the strength to continue on in hostile times when our set-backs seem severest." We in AmFedVets join the many other veterans' organizations and human rights groups in a salute of honor and praise. Although we are saddened by this loss we are strengthened in unity with those who believe that Sgt Perry Watson is a friend that will not soon be forgotten. His memory and commitment to the cause of equality for all will inspire those whose judgement righteously embrace ethic of the "Golden Rule."
