On Saturday, September 3, 1994, a group of veteran
rights activists convened in New York City and announced
the formation of the AMERICAN FEDERATION OF VETERANS whose
motto is " We are One - An Alliance for Equality of
Rights."
On Sunday, September 4, the founding delegates, all gay
and lesbian U.S. Armed Forces veterans, adopted a national
Constitution.
Federation President, German Lopez of New York City and
Executive Vice President, Karl Clark of South Florida,
extend a welcoming hand in partnership and fraternal
friendship to all Americans interested in honoring those
who served and died for this country and they likewise ask
for a commitment to the furtherance of care, benefits, and
rights due all current and past servicemembers without
discrimination inclusive of sexual orientation.
The federation will be incorporated in South Florida and
maintain it's National Headquarters and Information
Management Center in New York City. Its newly established
headquarters office will be located along with other major
veterans organizations in Veterans Hall, 346 Broadway,
Suite 811, New York, N.Y. 10013.
They have formally announced the commencement of two
research programs dealing with the establishment of a
national "Vets Emergency Hotline" and a "Veterans and
Servicemembers Due-Process Program."
