Thanks! Rainbow Endowment Scope: The Rainbow Endowment supports national efforts to encourage positive physical and mental health, promote increased visibility and advance full participation and access to social, cultural and civic life for the gay and lesbian community. Deadline: Proposals are due on the third Friday in June for the fall grant cycle and the third Friday in January for the spring grant cycle. Funds: Grants range from $5,000 to $20,000. Eligibility: 501(c)(3) organizations are eligible. The endowment does not support the delivery of direct services. Tip: The endowment prefers projects that pay particular attention to lesbian and gay youth, elders, people of color and families; are led by lesbian or gay people; have a diverse board and staff; demonstrate sound fiscal planning, sustained management and a sustainable capacity; create links between national efforts and state or local organizational needs; and strengthen the connections between individuals and groups that typically would not have an opportunity to learn from each other, both within the lesbian and gay community and between the lesbian and gay community and other communities. Areas: The endowment announced last month that is seeking to support efforts in two areas: health and community. Priority is given to efforts that have practical implications or applications. In the area of health, grants are made to promote awareness of gay and lesbian mental and physical health issues among consumers and healthcare providers; to advocate for and develop public policy for equal healthcare treatment or equal access to healthcare treatment; and to advocate for and develop public policy to prevent further HIV/AIDS infection and to improve the lives of people with HIV/AIDS. In the area of community, grants are made to protect lesbian and gay rights; promote coalitions that work to strengthen advocacy efforts to improve conditions for lesbians and gays; and to develop policies that benefit lesbian and gay youth and the children of lesbian and gay families.
