Subject: MATHEW SHEPARD: TIME MAN OF THE YEAR

This is a little weird but it might work and it would be so profound.
Please take a minute and go to the TIME MAN OF THE YEAR site and vote for
Matthew Shephard. It would be an incredible symbol to have this queer kid
on the cover for Time magazine for 1999. I don't know if this internet vote
really works, but even so somebody will take notice. It's a big deal and
sends a big message.

HERE'S THE DEAL: Each December since 1927, TIME has selected the "Man of the
Year," the person who most shook up our world during the previous 12 months.
In some cases, the choice has been symbolic or inanimate, such as
"Endangered Earth" in 1988 and "American Women" in 1976. What headline
grabber should take the prize this year? Monica Lewinsky or Kenneth Starr?
The Internet or Viagra? Saddam Hussein or Alan Greenspan? [I'm all for
Viagra, as we know, but that should remain in my med cabinet where it
belongs and not on the cover of TIME. -- Greg]

This is your chance to tell TIME who or what you think was this year's most
influential newsmaker.

Please vote for Mathew Shepard for Man of The Year. It would be a great
statement showing that his death DID in fact stir things up and that the we
noticed and don't want it happening again.
