Subject: Small-Town LGBT Survey

                         REQUEST FOR PARTICIPANTS
SURVEY OF LGBT PEOPLE IN SMALLER AMERICAN COMMUNITIES

The Heartland Project is a national nonprofit organization
formed in late 1994 to provide training, consulting and advice to
new and existing lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered (LGBT)
groups in smaller cities and towns and rural communities in the
United States.
We are conducting a national survey of individuals, groups and
businesses friendly to LGBT people outside of major metropolitan
areas. This study is aimed at helping us focus our attention on
the areas of training in which the need is greatest.
If you live in a rural area, or in a metropolitan area of
fewer than 150,000 people, or in an area with a central city or
town of fewer than 75,000 people, we would greatly appreciate your
taking the time to complete the survey.
More than 1,000 copies of the survey were mailed recently to
LGBT-friendly groups and businesses in smaller U.S. communities,
and to statewide organizations and publications.
In order to reach as many LGBT people in small cities and
rural areas as possible, we also are posting this request to
several pro-LGBT Internet outlets.
You don't need to be a local community leader or activist in
order to fill this out; in fact, the views of a wide range of
people will help us greatly. We'd like to hear from as many people
as possible who live, work, or go to school outside of major
metropolitan areas.
All answers to this survey will of course be kept strictly
confidential.

IF YOU WISH TO TAKE PART IN THIS SURVEY, PLEASE RESPOND TO:
heartland@pride.net BEFORE 12 SEPTEMBER 1995. We will also send
along the e-mail version of the Project's recent newsletter.

Please re-post this announcement at will.
     Thanks very much!
