In your packet on Gay men of Color, I'd suggest that you include materials from the two prominent anthologies, "In the Life: A Black Gay Anthology" and "Brother to Brother: New Writings by Black Gay Men." Both of these contain poetry and fiction as well as varied essays on life and living. See especially the introduction to both of these, they are very useful, and perhaps you could include Joseph Beams eloquent, insightful essay, "Brother to Brother: Words from the Heart." The newsletters of Gay Men of African Decent provide some really good material, also. You can reach GMAD at (718) 802-0162, ask for Rod McCoy, who's a friend of mine and who, I presume, is still the secretary of the organization. He's also very resourceful and would be happy to send you a newsletter on GMAD or other groups for GBLs of Color. Their address is GMAD, P.O. Box 2519, New York, NY 10185-10013. Assotto Saint independently (read: non-mainstream) edited and published "The Road Before Us: 100 Black Gay Poets" which you can order, here is the citation: [_The Road Before Us: 100 Gay Black Poets_, edited by Assoto Saint, Galiens Press, 1991. $10 paperbk from Galiens Press, Box 4026, 524 W. 23rd Street, NYC, NY 10011. -- lc] Additionally, there have been a number of articles on some of the problems Black Gay men face in light of a synergistically harsh social treatment directed by anti-gay and anti-black attitudes, you might want to include a more rigorus social-science piece, as well. One of the best scholars writing from this vantage is Larry Icard, at the University of Cincinatti. See his article, "Black Gay Men and Conflicting Social Identities: Sexual Orientation Versus Racial Identity" in /Social Work Practice in Sexual Problems/, edited by James Gripton and Mary Valentich. Other Countries, directed by Robert Reid-Pharr is a collective, (whose address has already been posted) and Robert is a Ph.D. candidate currently in residence at Swathmore. Write me if you need his user-id. You may include (this is getting long) something from Adrian Stanford's /Black and Queer/, which is one of the earliest defiantly Gay and Black volumes to appear. (1977, The Good Gay Poets: Boston). This volume is currently out of print, I believe, and if you ever see a copy at a used book sale, grab it with your life! You can obtain their newsletter for one year for $5.00 by writing to We Wah & Bar Chee Ampe Buffalo Hide Suite 141 Zeckendorf Towers 111 East 14th Street New York, NY 10003 I have less material at hand on South Asians, Chicano/Chicana, Latin American Pacific Islander, and other persons of Color--it would take me much longer to dig up this material because it isn't yet entered in the database and that work is coming along slowly. I am working on my dissertation and trying to finish up, so I can't devote as much time to entering citations into the database as I'd like. For gaynetters, please help me to build this database by clipping material on GLBs of Color and sending it to me at the Shango Project. I especially need more info. on contacts of other organizations of GLBs of Color as well as info. on newsletters, articles, events, etc. Thanx, and hope this helps, Bill Pincheon The Shango Project National Archives for Black Lesbians and Gay Men P.O.
