Dear Action Alert editor,

     I realize that Action Alert is not a discussion group, however, I 
wish to comment to Peter Nardi's statement that Bally's does not permit 
domestic partners to sign up for the 2-for-1 rate.

     This is not true.  They do.  You can call any of the following 
people who will tell you that they accept domestic partnerships for all 
of their "family" offers:

     What you need to do is to get a certificate of domestic partnership 
from the city of West Hollywood for $15 to document that there is a 
domestic partnership.  (You can do it by mail, and you don't have to be a 
resident of West Hollywood, the state of California, or even the USA.)

     Opposite sex couples who are married but have different last names 
must bring in their marriage certificate.  Only people who have the same 
last name do not have to prove they are "related."

     The 1-800 number that Peter gave is for the National Bally's renewal 
system in Baltimore, Maryland.  *They* will not sign up your domestic 
partner.  But California residents who want to sign-up their lovers can 
go through their local club or call Brenda Stout at the Huntington Beach 
Corporate office if they encounter any difficulty.

     So, while the Action Alert list is international in Scope and 
Bally's is a USA-National chain, the claim that "people, especially in 
West Hollywood" cannot sign-up for the special rate, is wrong.

     By the way, I just added my domestic partner to my membership for 
$199 last week using the coupon that came with my annual renewal 
statement from Baltimore.  If you are from Bally's California and do it 
by mail rather than by phone, you should note that the address where the 
coupon goes is to Huntington Beach, CA-- while the phone number is in 
Maryland.

     We've since gone to the clubs in Chatsworth, Hollywood and West 
Hollywood.

     (Sometimes it pays to live in California.)
