Hi, folks! This is note #2 (of 5) of the list of tv shows
with gay, lesbian, other sexual minority, and gay/straight
AIDS themes, for the tv week of Sat 12/2/95-Fri 12/8/95.
Be sure to read all 5 notes! Most times Eastern.

*************** CONTINUED FROM NOTE #1 *****************

- GENERAL HOSPITAL (CC). There has also been an ongoing
story line about AIDS on this show. The character of
Stone died of AIDS on 12/1, but there may be follow-up.
> Airs weekdays at 3:00 pm ET on ABC.

- ALL ABOUT BETTE (CC). TV Guide says "Jodie Foster
narrates a profile of Bette Davis (1908-89), whose 'real
life was filled with ambivalence.' Included: Davis'
battles with studio bosses." I've never heard any firm
reports about Bette Davis, but a friend suggested I list
this. The "ambivalence" quote is intriguing..... Airs:
> Mon. 12/4/95, 8:00 pm, on NJ Network stations (including
WNJS ch. 23 in Camden, WNJT ch. 52 in Trenton)
> May air on other public tv stations as well. Check
local listings.

- GREAT PERFORMANCES: JULIE ANDREWS (CC). A celebration
of the new Broadway production based on the great gay
movie Victor/Victoria. Airs this week on some PBS
stations, so check your local listings. Airings include:
> Mon. 12/4/95, 9:00 pm, on Phila. PA WHYY ch. 12
> Fri. 12/8/95, 8:00 pm, on NYC NY WNET ch. 13

- THE SIMPSONS (CC). TV Guide says: "Homer receives a
promotion, a key to the executive washroom, and an
invaluable secretary (voice of Harvey Fierstein)." Airs
this week on some daily syndicated reruns, including:
> Tues. 12/5/95, 6:00 pm, on Phila PA WTXF ch. 29
> Tues. 12/5/95, 7:00 pm, on NYC NY WNYW ch. 5

- ZORRO THE GAY BLADE. Very stereotypical but really
funny movie about the twin sons of the legendary
swordsman, who take over as Zorro when their father dies.
One is straight, and the other is a flaming queen.
(Picture Zorro in a lavender tassled hat!) Airs:
> Wed. 12/6/95, 11:00 pm, Encore cable
> Thurs. 12/7/95, 6:30 am (NOT pm!) & 2:45 pm, Encore

- ORLANDO (CC). Movie about a person who lives 400 years
and manages to change genders several times without any
surgery. Despite the intriguing premise, this is an
*incredibly* boring movie. Not recommended. Airs:
> Thurs. 12/7/95, 7:55 am (NOT pm!) and 3:30 pm, The Movie
Channel

- SIX DEGREES OF SEPARATION. Intriguing and enjoyable
movie about a gay con man. Supposedly based on a true
story. Will Smith stars as the con man. Airs:
> Thurs. 12/7/95, 11:30 am & 10:30 pm, Prism
> Thurs. 12/7/95, 5:05 pm, The Movie Channel

The following shows air once this week as far as I know:

- THE PELICAN BRIEF (CC). Airs Sat. 12/2/95, 9:30 am (NOT
pm!), Prism. It is incidental to the plot, but one of the
US Supreme Court Justices who gets killed in the beginning
of the show turns out to have been gay.

- MAKING OF HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS. Airs Sun. 12/3/95,

Hi, folks! This is note #4 (of 5) of the list of tv shows
with gay, lesbian, other sexual minority, and gay/straight
AIDS themes, for the tv week of Sat 12/2/95-Fri 12/8/95.
Be sure to read all 5 notes! Most times Eastern.

*************** CONTINUED FROM NOTE #3 ******************

- POSITIVE HEALTH. Airs Tues. 12/5/95, 7:30 pm. on Phila.
PA WYBE ch. 35. Local show by and for people with AIDS
and HIV disease.

- AMERICA UNDERCOVER: TAXICAB CONFESSIONS 2. Airs Tues.
12/5/95, 10:00 pm, HBO. TV Guide calls this "a sequel to
last January's Emmy-winning glimpse into New York City
culture through the eyes of cab passengers." The first
"Taxicab Confessions" included a lot of gay/lesbian/bi/
transgender content, so this one probably will, too. No
promises, though.

- SALMONBERRIES. Airs Wed.-Thurs. 12/6-7/95, 4:30 am,
Prism. k.d. lang stars in this movie, but most of the
women I know who've seen it have described it as boring.

- AFTERSCHOOL SPECIAL: POSITIVE - A JOURNEY INTO AIDS
(CC). Airs Thurs. 12/7/95, 4:00 pm, ABC. "Cameras follow
actors Michael Sutton and Kimberly McCullough, who play
AIDS patients on the daytime soap opera General Hospital,
as they research their roles and talk with those battling
the disease, their families, friends, companions and
health officials."-TV Guide. See the article on pg. 56.

- FRIED GREEN TOMATOES (CC). Airs Thurs. 12/7/95, 8:00
pm, USA cable. This movie adaptation of Fannie Flagg's
novel FRIED GREEN TOMATOES AT THE WHISTLE STOP CAFE hardly even hints at the
lesbian romance that is so central to
the book [between Idgie (Mary Stuart Masterson's
character) and Ruth (Mary-Louise Parker's role)].

- THE CREW (CC). Airs Thurs. 12/7/95, 8:30 pm, FOX. TV
Guide says "Unable to provide a urine sample for a random,
company-ordered drug test, Randy uses part of the one that
Paul submitted - but their tests don't yield the same
results. Paul: David Burke." Paul is the gay character.

- SEINFELD (CC). Airs Thurs. 12/7/95, 9:00 pm, NBC.
"Kramer refuses to wear a ribbon on the AIDS walk."-TV
Guide

- UNSOLVED MYSTERIES (CC). Airs Fri. 12/8/95, 8:00 pm,
NBC. TV Guide says "A report on new evidence in the 1959
death of actor George Reeves (TV's first Superman)
includes interviews with costar Jack Larson (who played
Jimmy Olson), researcher Michael Hayde and editor Jim
Nolt." According to a newspaper report I read last year,
Jack Larson came out some years after the series ended.

- PICKET FENCES (CC). Airs Fri. 12/8/95, 10:00 pm, CBS.
"The death of a gay man during a papal parade in Rome
Wis., is thought to be a suicide - until an unlikely
witness speaks out." See the article on pg. 49 of the
12/2-8/95 TV Guide for more on this.
