- IN THE LIFE.  Quarterly g/l/b news/journal.  WYBE's
program guide says "In Beijing for the International
Conference of Women, IN THE LIFE visited the 'lesbian
tent' where women from around the world met to discuss
international gay rights.  Also Charles Busch reports on
the new mainstreaming of drag, interviewing Patrick Swayze
and Wesley Snipes about their recent roles as drag
queens."  TV Guide says this episode also has a segment on
the fight to legalize lesbian and gay marriages.  Airs
this month in many PBS and public access stations; check
your local listings.  The IN THE LIFE newsletter lists the

- ALL MY CHILDREN.  According to pg. 42 of the 10/28/95 TV
Guide, one of AMC's regular characters is going to be
revealed to be gay this week.  High school teacher Michael
Delaney (played by Chris Bruno) will come out.  The
character has been on the soap for about 6 months, and is
the brother of long-time character Laurel Dillon.  See the
TV Guide for an article about the story line.  Airs:
> Weekdays, 1:00 pm Eastern, ABC

- JUST ONE OF THE GUYS.  Joyce Hyser stars as a high
school student who pretends to be male and enrolls in
another school, to research a newspaper article on sexism.
When she falls in love with a male friend at the other
school, her classmates think that Joyce is a gay male.  A
well done 1985 movie.  Airs:
> Wed.-Thurs., 11/1-2/95, 1:00 am., Encore Cable
> Thurs. 11/2/95, 8:15 am & 3:30 pm, Encore

- MONTEL WILLIAMS:  DATING VIRGINS BECAUSE OF ONE'S FEAR
OF CONTRACTING AIDS.  Airs Thurs. 11/2/95 in most areas.

- STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE.  TV Guide says:  "Star Trek
once created controversy by pairing Kirk and Uhura for an
interracial kiss.  Star Trek: Deep Space Nine serves up
another thought-provoking smooch, this one being two
female actresses playing symbionts."  A UPN ST:DS9 ad
elsewhere in the TV Guide says:  "In a previous life they
were husband and wife....will Dax risk everything for her
one true love?"  This long-awaited show airs:
> Thurs 11/2/95, 8:00 pm, on UPN stations in most areas
(including Phila. PA WGBS ch. 57).  However, some local
channels may time shift this show, so be sure to check
your local listings.

- THE INDIGO GIRLS IN LONDON.  Airs Sat. 10/28/95, 5:05 am
(NOT pm!), Disney cable.

- HEART OF THE MATTER (CC).  Airs in NYC on Sat. 10/28/95,
2:30 pm, on WNET ch. 13.  May or may not air on other PBS
stations as well.  TV Guide says:  "(1994)  A 'P.O.V.'
presentation about women and sexuality in the era of AIDS
focuses on the story of AIDS victim Janice Jirau and
includes comments by HIV-positive women."

- TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL (CC).  Airs Sat. 10/28/95, 8:00 pm,
CBC.  A reader advised me that this week's episode is
about an AIDS hospice being threatened by a white
supremacist group.

Guide says that this show includes a skit in which "a
ventriloquist's dummy 'outs' his operator."  (Your guess
is as good as mine....no promises on gay content!)

- GREAT PERFORMANCES (CC).  Airs again this weekend in NYC
on Sun. 10/29/95, noon, on WNET ch. 13.  A celebration of
Julie Andrews in honor of her bringing Victor/Victoria to
Broadway.  May include scenes from the movie or new show.

- MELROSE PLACE (CC).  Airs Mon. 10/30/95, 8:00 pm, Fox.
"Matt takes the entrance exam for medical school"-TV Guide

- POSITIVE HEALTH.  Airs in Phila. PA on Tues. 10/31/95,
7:30 pm, on WYBE ch. 35.  A local weekly show by and for
people with AIDS and HIV disease.

- CHEERS (CC).  Airs Tues 10/31/95, 11:30 pm, on WPIX
national cable ch. 11.  Harvey Fierstein appears as
Rebecca's high school flame, who comes out to her.

- EIGHT BALL.  Airs in Phila. PA on Wed. 11/1/95, at 11:41
pm, on WHYY ch. 12. WHYY's SEVEN ARTS program guide says:
"A tale of a relationship disrupted by the revelation of
the HIV-positive status of one of the lovers; directed by
K. Brent Hill, using vignettes, multilingual commentary
and voice-over narrative.  Viewer discretion advised."

- THE KATHY & MO SHOW.  Airs Thurs. 11/2/95, 8:00 pm,
Comedy Central.  Lesbian-positive standup comedy from
Kathy Najimy & Maureen ("Mo") Gaffney.

- SINGLE GUY (CC).  Airs Thurs. 11/2/95, 8:30 pm, NBC.
"Jonathan suspects that his new buddy Ross (David
Schwimmer of 'Friends' is gay - and vice versa.
Meanwhile, others assume the two are romantically linked,
including a gay neighborhood couple (Michael Winters, Mark
Harelik)."-TV Guide
Note: NBC is running a series of shows all night that
interweave story lines, so you might want to check out the
other shows in this arc (Friends, etc.).

- ROCK'N'JOCK B-BALL JAM.  Airs Thurs. 11/2/95, 9:30 pm,
MTV.  "The fifth annual celebrity fund-raiser for
pediatric AIDS research."-TV Guide

- GREAT PERFORMANCES (CC):  "IN THE WINGS: ANGELS IN
AMERICA ON BROADWAY".  Airs Thurs. 11/2/95 on some PBS
stations, including 10:00 pm on Phila. PA WHYY ch. 12.  TV
Guide says that this show "blends cast interviews with
comments from directory George C. Wolfe and playwright
Tony Kushner to study Kushner's controversial, Pulitzer-
winning Broadway play, 'Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia
on National Themes.'  Included:  rehearsal sessions."

- THE PELICAN BRIEF (CC).  Airs Fri. 11/3/95, noon, HBO.
It is incidental to the plot, but one of the US Supreme
Court Justices who gets assassinated in the beginning of
this film turns out to have been gay.

- PERSONAL BEST.  Airs Fri.-Sat., 11/3-4/95, 3:00 am,
Encore cable.  Just about every lesbian I know hated this
show about two lesbian Olympic athletes, in part because
their male coach is such an offensive creep.

- Attention NYC Readers:  WNET ch. 13 is running shows
about women's health ALL DAY on Sat. 10/28/95.

- GLORY.  Excellent historical movie about America's first
black army regiment, during the Civil War.  Denzel
Washington stars.  Airs:
> Sun. 10/29/95, 10:50 am & 11:15 pm, The Movie Channel

- CRY FREEDOM.  Airs Sun. 10/29/95, 10:30 pm, Disney  I've
never seen this movie, but TV Guide says that it is about
South African anti-apartheid activist Stephen Biko and a
journalist.

- THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK.  Airs Thurs. 11/2/95, 8:00 am,
Cinemax.  This is a remake.  Melissa Gilbert plays Anne
Frank, whose diary revealed her family's struggle to try
to survive the Holocaust.

- POV: 'LEONA'S SISTER GERRI' (CC).  Airs on most PBS
stations on Fri. 11/3/95, 10:00 pm, incl. Phila. PA WHYY
ch. 12.  WHYY's guide says:  "Filmmaker Jane Gillooly
recreates the life of Gerri Santoro, a woman whose
anonymous portrait, published in Ms. Magazine in 1973,
shocked & mobilized the nation.  Santoro had been
discovered lying on a motel-room floor, dead because of an
illegal abortion.  Viewer discretion advised."
Note:  This movie is followed by a discussion show.
