VICTOR/VICTORIA. Excellent & VERY gay-positive 1982
musical comedy starring Julie Andrews, James Garner,
Robert Preston, and Alex Karras. Andrews is a straight
woman opera singer ("Victoria") who winds up broke and
jobless in 1930s Paris. Enter her new best friend Toddy,
a gay nightclub singer (WONDERFULLY portrayed by Robert
Preston!). Toddy talks her into pretending to be both his
male lover ("Victor") and a drag queen, and Andrews winds
up the toast of the town in a drag show. All is fine
until she meets & falls in love with Garner (who thinks
she's a man). Alex Karras is Garner's gay bodyguard, who
gets involved w/ Toddy. HIGHLY recommended! This movie is
one of my all-time favorite films. It airs this week on
most PBS stations nationwide in conjunction with a Julie
Andrews special, so check your local listings. But beware
of pledge breaks in some areas. Airings include:
> Sat. 10/21/95, 8:00 pm, San Francisco CA KQED ch. 9
> Sat.-Sun., 10/21-22/95, midnight, Phila. PA WHYY ch. 12
> Wed. 10/25/95, 9:00 pm, San Francisco CA KQED ch. 9
> Wed. 10/25/95, 9:30 pm, Phila. PA WHYY ch. 12

> next Sat. 10/28/95, 9:00 pm, on Los Angeles KCET ch. 28

- THE WEDDING BANQUET. TV Guide says "Engaging farce
involving an interracial gay couple who stage a phony
marriage ceremony to please one partner's tradition-minded
parents." Airings include:
> Sun. 10/22/95, 9:00 pm, Prism
> Mon. 10/23/95, 12:30 pm, Prism

- JERRY SPRINGER: DISLIKING A GAY FRIEND'S FLAMBOYANT
BEHAVIOR. Airs Mon 10/23/95 in most areas. Check local
listings. Airings include:
> Mon. 10/23/95, 11:00 am, on NYC NY WNBC ch. 4
> possible: Mon 10/23/95, 11:00 am, Phila. PA WGBS ch. 57

*************** CONTINUED FROM NOTE #2 ******************

- MEDUSA: DARE TO BE TRUTHFUL. Airs Sun. 10/22/95, 4:00
pm, Comedy Central. This parody of the Madonna: Truth or
Dare documentary also reportedly parodies the gay content
in that movie.

- AILEEN WUORNOS: THE SELLING OF A SERIAL KILLER. Airs
Mon 10/23/95, 5:00 am (NOT pm!), Cinemax. Documentary
about the serial killer. Unknown if this show discusses
her reported relationship with another woman.

- THE NANNY (CC). Airs Mon. 10/23/95, 8:00 pm, CBS. This
one is iffy, folks. TV Guide says: "Maxwell (Charles
Shaughnessy) is attracted to his new publicist (Catherine
Oxenberg), but he's decidedly not her preference." No
promises on gay content, but "preference" is frequently
used as a TV description euphemism for sexual orientation.

- THE KILLING OF SISTER GEORGE. Airs Mon.-Tues., 10/23-
24/95, 12:45 am, Encore cable. TV Guide says "Robert
Aldrich directed this strong, well-acted version of Frank
Marcus's stage play about a destructive lesbian
relationship."

- THE ADVENTURES OF PRISCILLA, QUEEN OF THE DESERT. Airs
Tues.-Wed., 10/24-25/95, midnight, Showtime cable.
"Delightfully campy account of three transvestites'
offbeat escapades as they traverse the Australian outback
in their ramshackle bus, 'Priscilla'."-TV Guide

- ARTHUR ASHE (CC). Airs Wed. 10/25/95, 7:00 am, HBO.
Documentary about the tennis star. Probably includes his
death from AIDS & his education efforts about the disease.

- ROSEANNE (CC). Airs in NYC on Wed. 10/25/95, 6:30 pm,
on WNYW ch. 5. This is the great episode in which
Roseanne learns that Rodbell's dept. store is asking its
employees to take a lie detector test. She thinks they're
trying to find out if Leon (Martin Mull) is gay. (He is,
but they aren't.)

- GREAT PERFORMANCES: "JULIE ANDREWS - BACK ON BROADWAY".
Airs on most PBS stations on Wed. 10/25/95, 8:00 pm. In
preparation for Julie Andrews' opening with the new
Broadway show version of the great gay-positive movie
Victor/Victoria, PBS stations around the country are
airing this Julie Andrews special, in conjunction with the
movie version of Victor/Victoria. Check your local
listings for these shows. Pledge breaks will interrupt in
some areas.

- DREAM ON (CC). Airs Wed. 10/25/95, 10:00 pm, HBO. TV
Guide says: "Judith's attractive friend from college
visits." No promises, but if this is the episode I think
it is, the friend turns out to be gay.

- DAME EDNA EXPERIENCE. Airs Wed. 10/25/95, 11:15 pm, on
KQED ch. 9. Starring Australian cross-dresser Barrie
Humphries.
