men and return to women.

- THREESOME (CC). Airs Sat.-Sun., 9/9-10/95, 2:30 am,
Showtime cable. (NOTE: Showtime is supposed to be
offering a free preview this weekend, so this show will be
unscrambled for most folks who have cable.) Three college
students wind up in a dorm suite. The Woman is in love
with man #1. Man #1 is in love with Man #2. Man #2 is in
love with the woman. Got the picture?

- IN CONCERT: SWEET HONEY IN THE ROCK. Airs in San
Francisco Sun. 9/10/95, 11:00 am, on KQED ch. 9. A friend
writes "Filmed at S.F.'s Glide Memorial Church, the award-

songs celebrating self-esteem and empowerment in a concert
titled 'Songs for the Children.'"

Hi, folks! This is note #3 (of 5) of the list of tv shows
with gay, lesbian, other sexual minority, and gay/straight
AIDS themes, for the tv week of Sat 9/9/95 - Fri 9/15/95.

*************** CONTINUED FROM NOTE #2 ******************

- ROOTS, ROCK & ROLL OF MELISSA ETHERIDGE. Airs Sun.
9/10/95, 4:00 pm, VH-1.

- AMERICAN SPORTSWOMEN. Airs Sun. 9/10/95, 5:00 pm, on
New York City WABC ch. 7. According to TV Guide, the
topics include "a discussion of sexuality in women's
sports".

- THE EMMY AWARDS (CC). Airs Sun. 9/10/95, 8:00 pm, on
Fox. According to my e-mail, pg. 22 of the 9/9/95 TV
Guide, and pg. 24 of the 9/8/95 ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY,
there are several nominations of particular interest this
year, including:
> TV Movie: "Serving in Silence: The Margarethe
Cammermeyer Story" (NBC)
> Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Special: Glenn Close,
"Serving in Silence: The Margarethe Cammermeyer Story"
> Comedy script: gay writer Joe Keenan, for his episode
of "Frasier" in which Frasier inadvertently asked a man
for a date
> Comedy direction: gay director David Lee, for the same
"Frasier" episode
> Informational or Cultural Program: "After Goodbye: An
AIDS Story" about the impact of the disease on The Turtle
Creek Chorale, Dallas' 200 member male chorus

- ORLANDO (CC). Airs Sun. 9/10/95, 8:00 pm, The Movie
Channel. Despite an intriguing premise, this is a very
boring and disappointing movie about a person (Tilda
Swinton) who lives 400 years and changes genders without
the benefit of surgery. Based on Virginia Woolf's story.

- mdTV: ADVENTURES WITH DEBI AND MARK. Monthly gay cable
show airs in San Francisco on Sun. 9/10/95, 8:00 pm, on
Viacom ch. 53. This month's topic: "Dates from Hell".
Filmed in the Castro. (Airs second Sunday of each month.)

- MELROSE PLACE (CC). Airs Mon. 9/11/95, 8:00 pm, Fox.
It looks like gay character Matt (Doug Savant) will be
featured in this 4th season opener. At the end of last
season, Matt was "wrongfully imprisoned for murder".
Tonight, "Anne-Marie Johnson signs on as Matt's lawyer and
James Handy, who's recently played tough guys on NYPD Blue
and Beverly Hills, 90210, changes pace to return as the
accused killer's father." (quotes from TV Guide)

- PARTNERS (CC). Airs Mon. 9/11/95, 9:00 pm, Fox. New
series premiere. A new show about a woman (Alicia) who
marries a man (Owen) and finds herself also attached at
the hip to his best friend Bob. On pg. 62 of the 9/8/95
Entertainment Weekly, EW says: "Partners...takes pains to
tell us that Bob is straight, but the way his relationship
with Owen plays out, he's deployed as a gay character.
One of the pilot's big jokes is that everyone in the
architectural firm where Bob and Owen work stops and
stares when the two men embrace".

*********************************************************

Some notes this week:

1. All readers should RUN, NOT walk, to the nearest
newsstand and buy the 9/8/95 issue of ENTERTAINMENT
WEEKLY. The cover story and the main theme for this
week's magazine is "The Gay 90s: Entertainment Comes Out
of the Closet". It includes about 24 pages of articles on
gay subjects (including movies, television, music, etc.).
This is the most comprehensive reporting on gay media
issues I've ever seen in a mainstream press magazine.
