who wind up rooming together because of an administrative
mixup. The Woman falls for Man #1. Man #1 falls for Man
#2. Man #2 falls for the Woman. You can guess the rest.

The following shows air once this week as far as I know:

- ARMISTEAD MAUPIN. Airs Sun.-Mon., 8/20-21/95, 2:00 am,
on New York City's WNET ch. 13. This is probably the
profile whose full title is "ARMISTEAD MAUPIN IS A MAN I
DREAMT UP", but no guarantees. My Phila. edition of the
TV Guide doesn't give any description.

- PERSONAL BEST. Airs Mon. 8/21/95, 9:00 pm, Encore
cable. 1982 movie about two Olympic runners (Mariel
Hemingway and Patrice Donnelly) who are lesbian lovers.
Most of the women I know who've seen this show have
strongly disliked it because of the VERY offensive male
coach (played by Scott Glenn).

AIDS themes, for the tv week of Sat 8/19/95-Fri. 8/25/95.

*************** CONTINUED FROM NOTE #2 ******************

- SOAPDISH (CC). Airs Tues. 8/22/95, 6:15 am, HBO-2 (not
regular HBO). Parody of tv soap operas. One of the many
villians is transgendered. Transphobia alert.

- THIS MORNING (CC). Airs Tues. 8/22/95, 7:00 am, CBS.
According to the TV Guide, the scheduled guests include
Harvey Fierstein.

- POSITIVE HEALTH. Airs in Philadelphia PA on Tues.
8/22/95, 7:30 pm, on WYBE ch. 35. Local weekly show by
and for people with HIV and/or AIDS.

- OUT TALK. Debuts in San Francisco, CA, on Tues.
8/22/95, 8:30 pm, on Viacom channel 35. GLAAD/San
Francisco describes this show as "a new lesbian/gay-
oriented TV magazine focusing on 'the arts, culture,
fashion, style, and events that are at the heart of the
San Francisco Bay area and abroad.'"

- NYPD BLUE (CC). Airs Tues. 8/22/95, 10:00 pm, ABC.
Among the stories is one in which "John Irvin (Bill
Brochtrup) informs Simone that Irvin and his closeted
police-officer lover were victims of gay-bashing - incited
from within the force."-TV Guide

- SINGING POSITIVE. Airs Wed. 8/23/95, 8:00 pm, Cinemax.
In this week's TV Guide, critic Tim Holland says:
"According to this poignant documentary, more than 150
members of the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus have died of
AIDS over the past 17 years. Three of them (along with
another who lost a loved one) are profiled during the
course of one season in which they rehearse and perform
with aplomb, and deal with their pain and loss with
courage. It's a heartfelt effort that puts a face to what
is for many a deadly but faceless disease. My score: 8."

- PRIMETIME LIVE (CC). Airs Wed. 8/23/95, 10:00 pm, ABC.
According to TV Guide, this show will include a rerun of
"a January segment on crimes against gay men in Texas."

- REAL WORLD. Airs Wed. 8/23/95, 10:30 pm, MTV. "Sean
and Pedro exchange rings."-TV Guide

- ORLANDO (CC). Airs Thurs. 8/24/95, 9:25 AM (NOT pm!),
The Movie Channel. I finally saw this over my recent
vacation, & I was really disappointed. It's about a person
who lives for over 400 years & manages to change gender in
the middle, without any surgery. Despite this intriguing
premise, the movie manages to be *incredibly* boring. It
offers a few interesting observations about governmental
sexism through the ages, but the good scenes are so far
apart and with so little holding them together that it
sometimes seems like the film will go 400 years....

- MRS. DOUBTFIRE (CC). Airs Thurs. 8/24/95, 6:00 pm,
Cinemax. Harvey Fierstein and CA gay comic Scott Capurro
play the gay couple & make-up artists who transform Robin
Williams into an elderly woman.

Hi, folks! This is note #4 (of 4) of the list of tv shows

- GAY USA. A reader said that this show is produced by
Gay Cable Network and airs in New York City every Thursday
night at 11 pm, on channel 35. NYC residents should make
a note of it if they're interested. This show isn't
listed in my TV Guide, so I will not list it every week.

- AMERICA UNDERCOVER: TAXICAB CONFESSIONS (CC). Airs Fri.
8/25/95, 9:30 pm, HBO. This made-for-HBO film follows
some real-life NYC cabbies at work. As I recall, one of
the cabbies is a lesbian; and some of the passengers were
gay, bi, or transgendered.

- FREESTYLES: A SHOW ABOUT FREEDOM...WITH STYLE. Airs
Fri.-Sat., 8/25-26/95, 3:30 am, on VH-1 (as paid
programming). This gay oriented show is hosted by openly
lesbian actress Amanda Bearse.

That's it for this week's gay tv list. But some readers
may want to look for the following:

- AMERICAN EXPERIENCE: ONE WOMAN, ONE VOTE (CC). Airs
Fri. 8/25/95, on some PBS stations, including 9:00 pm on
Phila. PA's WHYY ch. 12. TV Guide says that this show
"examines the suffrage movement's 72 year struggle to
legalize the vote for women. The film focuses on the
extraordinary partnership between Elizabeth Cady Stanton
and Susan B. Anthony, who together founded the National
Woman Suffrage Association in 1869."

- WOMEN OF COURAGE (CC). Airs Fri. 8/25/95 on some PBS
stations, including 10:00 pm on New Jersey's public
broadcasting stations (WNJS ch. 23 and WNJT ch. 52). TV
Guide says that this show is about "the unsung service of
WWII's Women Air Force Service Pilots (WASPs). Included:
the training of male pilots, the testing of aircraft and
the ferrying of combat planes."

                        ALERT!!!!
Also, readers with World Wide Web access may wish to check
out my new gay tv home page:

  http://pages.prodigy.com/NJ/carol_mortimer/gay_tv_menu.html

(Depending on the width of your display, the address may
appear to be longer than one line, but it isn't.)

You'll find this week's list plus some other info, such as
links to some of my favorite web sites.

This is still an experiment on my part, but the initial
response has been positive, so I'll probably maintain the
web site. Look for additional goodies to be added in the
coming weeks....
