Hi, folks!  This is note #1 (of 2) of the list of tv shows
with gay, lesbian, other sexual minority, and gay/straight
AIDS themes, for the tv week of Sat 8/12/95-Fri. 8/18/95.
Be sure to read both notes.  Local shows are listed with
local times; national shows are Eastern time zone.

Note:  This week's list is based on a TV Guide that
 doesn't include NYC NY shows.  Therefore, NYC shows
 are guesses based on usual airings & won't be complete.

>> LIFESTORIES:  FAMILIES IN CRISIS (CC).  TV Guide says:
"Two teenage girls cause a stir when they go to a high-
school prom together.  Heidi: Sabrina Lloyd.  Missy:  Kate
Anthony."  This is a pretty good show.  (It's also the
show that was discussed in a key scene of the wonderful
new lesbian movie THE INCREDIBLY TRUE ADVENTURE OF 2 GIRLS
IN LOVE.)  Likely airings include:
- Sat. 8/12/95, 7:00 am (NOT pm!), HBO-2  (not definite)
- Sun. 8/13/95, 2:30 pm, HBO  (definite)

>> EAGLE SCOUT: THE STORY OF HENRY NICOLS (CC).
Documentary about an HIV-positive Boy Scout from NY who
does AIDS education.  Airs:
- Tues. 8/15/95, 1:00 pm and 10:30 pm, HBO-2

>> THE PELICAN BRIEF (CC). It's incidental to the plot,
but one of the Supreme Court Justices who gets killed
turns out to have been a closeted gay man.   Airs:
- Tues. 8/15/95, 2:30 pm & 9:00 pm, Prism

>> GERALDO:  A DISCUSSION OF TEENS & BISEXUALITY.
According to TV Guide, the guests include author Randy
Kirk ('A Generation Betrayed').  Airs in most areas on
Tues. 8/15/95, including:
- Tues. 8/15/95, 4:00 pm, Phila. PA WCAU ch. 10
- probably airs at same time on NYC NY WCBS ch. 2

>> ROLONDA:  DISAPPROVING OF A TEEN'S SEXUALITY.  Not
definite, but likely to have gay/lesbian/bi content.

- Wed. 8/16/95, 11:00 am, on Phila. PA KYW ch. 3

>> A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE.  This is supposed to be the
1951 version that omitted overt discussion of
homosexuality because of production codes.  Airs:
- Wed. 8/16/95, 8:00 pm, American Movie Classics
- Wed.-Thurs. 8/16-17/95, midnight, AMC

The following shows air once this week as far as I know:

>>  A MOTHER'S PRAYER (CC).  Airs Sat. 8/12/95, 3:00 pm,
USA cable.  TV Guide said: "Linda Hamilton's gritty
performance keys this 1995 made-for-cable drama about a
woman with AIDS who's determined to find a home for her
son before she dies.  ....  RuPaul stands out in a small
role as an AIDS counselor."  This is Ru Paul's first
non-drag acting role.

>> SOAPDISH (CC).  Airs Sat.-Sun., 8/12-13/95, 3:00 am,
HBO-2.  Parody of tv soap operas.  One of the many
villians is transgendered.  Transphobia alert.

>> M. BUTTERFLY (CC).  Airs Mon. 8/14/95, 2:00 pm, HBO-2.
TV Guide says:  "Adaptation of David Henry Hwang's Tony-
winning play about the deceptive love affair between a
French diplomat (Jeremy Irons) and a Chinese opera
singer."  The opera singer turns out to be a man in drag.
Supposed to be based on a true story.

>> THIS MORNING (CC).  Airs Wed. 8/16/95, 7:00 am, CBS.
According to TV Guide, the scheduled guests include Kathy
Najimy, who will discuss her role in the upcoming
theatrical movie JEFFREY, about a gay man who decides to
be celibate because he's afraid of AIDS.

>> DOING TIME ON MAPLE DRIVE.  Airs Thurs. 8/17/95, 2:00
pm, Lifetime cable.  A family copes with conflicts over
gayness & other issues.

>> COMMUNITY FORUM: OUT OF THE CLOSET.  Airs in Phila. PA
on Thurs. 8/17/95, 9:30 pm, on WYBE ch. 35.  Monthly talk
show about the local gay/lesbian/bi/transgendered
communities, with a special emphasis on our communities of
color.  This month's topic is unknown.

>> AMERICAN PLAYHOUSE:  "ARMISTEAD MAUPIN'S 'TALES OF THE
CITY'" (CC).  Part 5 (of 6) probably airs in NYC on Thurs.
8/17/95, 10:00 pm, WNET ch. 13.  May or may not air on
other PBS stations, so check your local listings.

>> TOM SNYDER (CC).  Airs Fri.-Sat., 8/18-19/95, 12:35 am,
CBS.  TV Guide lists the scheduled guest as Patrick
Stewart.  He'll probably discuss his upcoming role as a
gay man in JEFFREY.
