*************** CONTINUED FROM NOTE #1 ******************

The following shows air once this week as far as I know:

>> SPORTS SHOW (CC). Airs Sat. 7/29/95, 2:00 pm, CBS.
Attention Martina Navratilova fans: This is a live
exhibition match between Monica Seles and Martina.

>> STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION (CC). Airs Sat.
7/29/95, 7:00 pm, on national cable WPIX ch. 11. (May be
pre-empted in some areas due to local cable access rules.)
This is the episode in which Will Riker gets involved with
a being from an androgynous planet that prohibits M/F
heterosexual relationships. No gay content whatever, but
some interesting parallels about societal prejudice.

>> CHANTILLY LACE. Airs Sun. 7/30/95, 9:45 pm, The Movie
Channel. Mostly improvised movie about a group of women
who have a reunion in a cabin retreat. Two of them are a
lesbian couple, & they wind up coming out to the group
during the weekend. Although well intentioned, the acting
& improvisations are uneven.

>> ARMISTEAD MAUPIN IS A MAN I MADE UP. Airs in Los
Angeles on Sun.-Mon., 7/30-31/95, midnight, on KCET PBS
ch. 28. This profile of the gay TALES OF THE CITY author
is worth a look.

>> SALMONBERRIES. Airs Sun.-Mon., 7/30-31/95, 1:00 am,
Prism. TV Guide calls this an "atmospheric, meandering
account of the friendship that develops between an Eskimo
drifter (k.d. lang) and an East German librarian in a
small Alaskan town." Most of the women I know who've seen
this movie have absolutely hated it.

>> THE PELICAN BRIEF (CC). Airs Mon. 7/31/95, 2:00 pm,
Cinemax. It's incidental to the plot, but one of the
Supreme Court Justices who gets killed turns out to have
been a closeted gay man.

>> SOAPDISH (CC). Airs Mon. 7/31/95, 2:45 pm, HBO.
Parody of tv soap operas. One of the many villians is
transgendered. Transphobia alert.

>> DREAM ON (CC). Airs Mon. 7/31/95, 10:00 pm, HBO.
Rebroadcast of last week's episode. TV Guide reviewer
Paul Droesch wrote: "Bumbling book editor Martin Tupper
(Brian Benben) is back (he returned last week). This
week, guest star Annette O'Toole wants to 'lesbianize'
with his Junior Leaguey ex-wife, Wendie Malick. It's as
smirky, infantile and borderline smutty as ever, but still
fun and clever enough to give it that 'I-buy-it-for-the-
articles' sort of acceptibility." TV Guide also said
"Judith's best friend (Annette O'Toole) from college, who
(sic) Martin considers 'the one that got away' visits -
and brings surprising news."

Hi, folks! This is note #3 (of 4) of the list of tv shows

AIDS themes, for the tv week of Sat 7/29/95-Fri. 8/4/95.

*************** CONTINUED FROM NOTE #2 ******************

>> LARRY SANDERS SHOW (CC). Airs Mon. 7/31/95, 10:30 pm,
HBO. TV Guide says: "When Darlene quits while on
vacation, Hank hires the temp (Scott Thompson) who was
filling in for her." Scott Thompson is the openly gay
cast member from KIDS IN THE HALL, who will appear
regularly as a gay man in this season's Larry Sanders
show.

>> TOLERANCE IN AMERICA. Airs Tues. 8/1/95, 7:00 am (NOT
pm), Arts & Entertainment. TV Guide doesn't list any
description for this show, but the title sounds like it
will be about prejudice &/or hate crimes.

>> GOLDEN GIRLS #1 (CC). Airs in NYC on Tues. 8/1/95,
6:30 pm, on WNYW ch. 5. May or may not air in other
areas. Monte Markham appears as Blanche's visiting gay
brother, who plans to come out to her.

>> GOLDEN GIRLS #2 (CC). Airs in Wildwood NJ on Tues.
8/1/95, 7:30 pm, on WMGM ch. 40. Again, this may or may
not air elsewhere, so check your listings. In this
episode, Rose (Betty White) awaits the results of an HIV
test.

>> POSITIVE HEALTH. Airs in Phila. PA every Tuesday
(including 8/1/95) at 7:30 pm, on WYBE ch. 35. Locally
produced show by and for PWAs and people who are HIV+.

>> MOMMY, WHO'LL TAKE CARE OF ME? Airs in Phila. PA on
Tues. 8/1/95, 8:00 pm, on WYBE ch. 35. WYBE's program
guide says: "Today's media stories about people with AIDS
rarely tell the point of view of the families affected.
Several families are profiled in this documentary about
those who love and lose someone to AIDS."

>> BIOGRAPHY: MADONNA. Airs Tues. 8/1/95, 8:00 pm, Arts &
Entertainment cable. This bio probably WILL discuss her
relationships with women as well as with men.

>> ELEANOR, FIRST LADY OF THE WORLD. Airs Tues.-Wed.,
8/1-2/95, 2:40 am, Disney cable. THIS movie, on the other
hand, definitely does NOT discuss Eleanor Roosevelt's
reported relationship with journalist Lorena Hickok. For
info on that aspect of her life, you must read the private
journals that were published posthumously.

>> A MOTHER'S PRAYER (CC). Airs Wed. 8/2/95, 9:00 pm,
USA cable. TV Guide writes: "Linda Hamilton's gritty
performance keys this 1995 made-for-cable drama about a
woman with AIDS who's determined to find a home for her
son before she dies. .... RuPaul stands out in a small
role as an AIDS counselor." Also see the articles on pgs.
5 & 49 of this week's TV Guide, and pg. 48 of the 8/4/95
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY. This is Ru Paul's first non-drag
acting role.

Hi, folks! This is note #4 (of 4) of the list of tv shows

*************** CONTINUED FROM NOTE #3 ******************

>> THE REAL WORLD. Airs Wed. 8/2/95, 10:00 pm, MTV. This
episode is scheduled to include a very strange event that
has been played up in the press. The male (but allegedly
straight) rock star gets his tongue bitten & seriously
hurt by a male concertgoer....

>> AMERICAN PLAYHOUSE: "ARMISTEAD MAUPIN'S 'TALES OF THE
CITY'" (CC). Part 3 (of 6) probably airs in NYC on Thurs.
8/3/95, 10:00 pm, WNET ch. 13. May or may not air on
other PBS stations, so check your local listings.

>> KATHY & MO: THE DARK SIDE (CC). Airs Fri. 8/4/95, 9:30
pm, HBO. This second special featuring skits by Kathy
Najimy & Mo Gaffney includes several that deal with gay
issues and/or AIDS. Not as funny as their first special,
but worth viewing.

>> PERSONAL BEST. Airs Fri.-Sat., 8/4-5/95, 1:00 am,
Encore cable. This 1982 movie, on the other hand, is NOT
worth viewing, IMHO. Patrice Donnelly and Mariel
Hemingway play Olympic track stars who are also lovers.
This movie was the pits.

**********************************************************

That's it for this week's gay tv shows, but check out the
following additional articles:

- Pg. 10 of the 8/4/95 issue of ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY
includes a short blurb about Patrick (Star Trek:TNG)
Stewart's appearance as a gay decorator in the upcoming
movie JEFFREY. (I've seen previews, and this looks like a
good film.)

- Pg. 34 of this week's TV Guide has an article about THE
YOUNG & THE RESTLESS star Elizabeth Sung, who is directing
an autobiographical film about her family and the impact
of her brother's death from AIDS. (Philip Sung was a New
York fashion designer who died of the disease in 1986.)

Also, a friend writes:
"As a miscellaneous note, the video for Jill Sobule's 'I Kissed a
Girl' is being shown quite frequently on VH-1 these days. The video is
real cute, a sub theme has Jill daydreaming of herself as a princess
and her 'knight-in-shining-armor' jumps quickly between Fabio and her
girlfriend. In at least one of the choruses as she sings 'I kissed a
girl !', Jill intones 'And I'll do it again !' " Specific air times not
known.
