*************** CONTINUED FROM NOTE #1 ******************

>> EAGLE SCOUT: THE STORY OF HENRY NICOLS (CC). On pg.
37, TV Guide's reviewer Tim Holland says: "Henry Nicols
is an avid mountain climber and water-skier, disciplined
karate student and Eagle Scout. He is also a hemophiliac
who was diagnosed with HIV when he was 12 years old.
Henry, now 21 and battling AIDS, simply and powerfully
tells his story (with comments from his devoted family)
without a trace of bitterness. 'It's just another
challenge to be overcome,' he says. His is an
inspirational story brimming with courage, hope, and above
all, life. My score: 9."
In the "For Kids" column on pg. 39, TV Guide says that
early in this documentary, Nicols "is scheduled to address
high-schoolers. A rail-thin scout in a wheelchair, a
blanket draped over his knees, is pushed to the podium.
The scout is helped to his feet, tells the group his name
is Chris - and proceeds to introduce the REAL Henry
Nicols. The healthy-looking, feisty All-American type
steps up and tells his surprised listeners, 'My name is
Henry Nicols and I do have AIDS.' The subterfuge had a
point: according to this report, 50% of American teens
'don't believe you can get AIDS from someone who looks
healthy'...." This program airs:
- Mon.-Tues., 7/10-11/95, 4:55 am, HBO
- Tues. 7/11/95, 7:30 pm, HBO

most of her friends are still stuck in those long-term

is lost, she meets L., a mysterious and captivating woman.
Cheryl gets caught up in the chase and L. leads her in and

The following shows air once this week as far as I know:

>> SWITCH (CC). Airs Sat. 7/8/95, 8:00 pm, Cinemax.
Ellen Barkin plays a misogynistic male who is reincarnated
in an adult woman's body. S/he winds up getting involved
with a lesbian. This 1991 movie has some funny moments
but also some pretty stereotypical ones.

>> FOUR WEDDINGS AND A FUNERAL (CC). Airs Sat. 7/8/95,
8:00 pm, Showtime cable. This movie has been HIGHLY
praised by many readers for its positive portrayal of a
gay couple.

>> FRIED GREEN TOMATOES (CC). Airs Sun. 7/9/95, 8:00 pm,
NBC. Mary Stuart Masterson and Mary-Louise Parker play a
lesbian couple in this movie based on Fannie Flagg's great
novel FRIED GREEN TOMATOES AT THE WHISTLE STOP CAFE.
Unfortunately, the movie only hints at their relationship.
Kathy Bates, Jessica Tandy, and Cicely Tyson costar.

>> SALUTE TO THE TOP 10 COMEDY MOVIES (CC). Airs Sun.
7/9/95, 8:30 pm, FOX. One of the movies being covered is
TOOTSIE, in which Dustin Hoffman played an actor who
pretended to be an actress. When Hoffman's character fell
for a woman co-star, she assumed that he was a lesbian.

>> COMING OUT UNDER FIRE. Airs in Sacramento, CA on
Sun.-Mon. 7/9-10/95, midnight, on KVIE ch. 6. TV Guide
says: "A frank discussion of the treatment of homosexuals
in the U.S. armed forces during WWII focuses on the
evolution of a policy intended to screen them out of
service as 'undesirables.'"

>> TODAY (CC). Airs Tues. 7/11/95, 7:00 am, NBC.
Scheduled guests include AIDS activist Mary Fisher.

>> AND THE BAND PLAYED ON (CC). Airs Tues. 7/11/95, 11:00
am, HBO. Great HBO adaptation of Randy Shilts' superb
book about the early years of the AIDS epidemic. HIGHLY
recommended! The all-star cast includes Sir Ian McKellen,
Lily Tomlin, Alan Alda, Matthew Modine, Richard Gere,
Anjelica Huston, Phil Collins, and Steve Martin.

>> POSITIVE HEALTH. Airs in Phila. PA every Tuesday
(including 7/11/95) at 7:30 pm, on WYBE ch. 35. Locally
produced show by and for PWAs and people who are HIV+.

>> FRASIER (CC). Airs Tues. 7/11/95, 9:00 pm, NBC.
TV Guide says: "Not knowing that the new station manager
is gay, Frasier tries to fix him up with Daphne (Jane
Leeves), but the fellow misconstrues Frasier's intentions:
he thinks Frasier wants to go out with him."
Note: Last week, I forgot to mention that the 7/1/95
TV Guide had a feature article about Frasier co-star Dan
Butler, who is openly gay. It said that Butler's one-man
play, THE ONLY THING WORSE YOU COULD HAVE TOLD ME...,
"bowls over critics in Los Angeles and New York".

>> GROOVE TV. Airs in NYC on Tues-Wed., 7/11-12/95,
midnight, on Manhattan Cable channel 69. I got an email
that this show airs every Tuesday night at midnight. It
is described as a "gay/lesbian MTV-style program" that
features "mainly out performers with interviews, videos
and news" and also "g/l-friendly performers." NYC
residents should take note if they're interested; I won't
list this show every week. They also hope to air in LA,
Chicago, and San Francisco within the year.

>> LIVING PROOF: HIV AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS. Airs
Thurs. 7/13/95, 1:45 pm, Cinemax. TV Guide says this 1993
documentary has "sensitive, upbeat portraits of a broad
spectrum of individuals coping with their HIV-positive
status by making a determined effort to get on with their
lives. Included are interviews with athletes."

>> DEAR JOHN (CC). Airs Thurs. 7/13/95, on Phila. PA WTXF
ch. 29. May or may not air on other late night syndicated
stations. TV Guide says: "A new member (Cleavon Little)

feels better when he finds Mr. Right - John."
