Subject: Gay TV Shows 5/27/95 - 6/2/95

Hi, folks! This is note #1 (of 3) of the list of tv shows
with gay, lesbian, other sexual minority, and gay/straight
AIDS themes, for the tv week of Sat 5/27/95 - Fri 6/02/95.
Be sure to read notes #2&3 also. Most times are Eastern.

*********************************************************

The following shows air at multiple/various times:

>> SOAPDISH (CC). Parody of tv soap operas. Among the
many villians is a transgendered person. Transphobia
alert. Airs:
- Sat. 5/27/95, 11:30 am, Cinemax
- Wed. 5/31/95, 8:45 am, Cinemax

>> WITHNAIL AND I. This movie reportedly has a gay
character. Airs:
- Sun. 5/28/95, 9:00 pm, Bravo cable
- Sun-Mon., 5/28-29/95, 3:00 am, Bravo

>> In the "all ISMs are related" category, check out this
week's: FRONTLINE: A CLASS DIVIDED (CC). TV Guide says
this show "follows up on an unusual experiment in
discrimination. In 1970, teacher Jane Elliott divided her
third-graders into two groups and, for two days, had one
group discriminate against the other. In 15 minutes, says
Elliott, she was able to turn wonderful thoughtful kids
into nasty, vicious ones. The lessons learned are
discussed by students who participated in the exercise."
Check your local PBS listings, but airings include:
- Tues. 5/30/95, 10:00 pm, on Phila. PA WHYY ch. 12
- Wed. 5/31/95, 1:00 pm, on Allentown PA's WLVT ch. 39A

hate crimes will be included or not. Airs Wed. 5/31/95 in
many areas, including:

- Wed-Thurs., 5/31-6/1/95, 4:30 am, Phila. PA WGBS ch. 57

>> THE CHILDREN'S HOUR. Faithful (and therefore pretty
depressing) 1962 adaptation of Lillian Hellman's play
about two women who run a girls' school in a small town.
One of their students lies and says that the women are
lovers, and the whole turn turns against them in a vile
display of mass homophobia. Warning: This movie has a
very upsetting ending. Airs:
- Wed-Thurs., 5/31/95-6/1/95, 2:45 am, Encore cable
- Thurs. 6/1/95, 10:00 am and 5:00 pm, Encore cable

Virginia Woolf's historical fantasy about an individual
(Tilda Swinton) who lives variously as a man or a woman
over the course of four centuries."-TV Guide Airs:
- Thurs. 6/1/95, 10:45 am and also 6:15 pm, Showtime
