Subject: Gay TV Shows 5/6/95 - 5/12/95

Hi, folks! This is note #1 (of 3) of the list of tv shows
with gay, lesbian, other sexual minority, and gay/straight
AIDS themes, for the tv week of Sat 5/6/95- Fri 5/12/95.
Be sure to read notes #2&3 also. Most times are Eastern.

*********************************************************

The following shows air at multiple/various times:

>> MY SO-CALLED LIFE MARATHONS. MTV is airing two
marathons of MSCL episodes. Undoubtedly, many will
feature the gay (bi?) character of Rickie. Airs:
- Sat. 5/6/95, 1:00 pm, MTV (5 hours)
- Sun. 5/7/95, 2:00 pm, MTV (6 hours)

>> PERSONAL BEST. 1982 movie starring Mariel Hemingway and
Patrice Donnelly as Olympic track stars and lovers. Most
of the women I know hated this movie because of the
incredibly sexist and offensive male coach. Airs:
- Sat. 5/6/95, 11:00 pm, Encore cable
- Sat-Sun., 5/6-7/95, 4:15 am, Encore
- Wed-Thurs., 5/10-11/95, 1:15 am, Encore

>> GERALDO. Geraldo has two shows of possible interest
this week. Check local listings for:
- BISEXUALITY. Airs on Mon 5/8/95 in most areas, incl.
4:00 pm on Phila. PA WCAU ch. 10 and NYC NY WCBS ch. 2
- MARRIED COUPLES WHO INCLUDE A THIRD PERSON IN THEIR SEX
LIFE. Airs Thurs. 5/11/95 in most areas.

>> REGIS & KATHIE LEE. Guests include gay Olympic gold
medalist-turned-author Greg Louganis. Airs Tues. 5/9/95
in most areas. Check local listings, but airings include:
- Tues. 5/9/95, 9:00 am, on Phila. PA WCAU ch. 10; NYC NY
WABC ch. 7; and Wildwood NJ WMGM ch. 40

>> SEX IN THE 90s. TV Guide says: "Singles comment on
aspects of courtship and dating, birth control, sexual
consent, and AIDS." Airs:
- Tues. 5/9/95, 7:30pm, MTV
- Fri. 5/12/95, 7:00 pm, MTV

>> 700 CLUB. On Thursday, Pat Robinson's 700 Club is
supposed to have a segment about AIDS called "Is God
Judging the Nations?". This will undoubtedly be both
AIDS-phobic and homophobic, so beware. Airs Thurs.
5/11/95, including:
- Thurs. 5/11/95, 6:00 am local time on Los Angeles ch. 13
- Thurs. 5/11/95, noon local time, Los Angeles ch. 40
- Thurs. 5/11/95, 10:00 am, Phila. PA WPHL ch. 17

>> CHARLES PEREZ: TRANSSEXUALISM. Airs Thurs. 5/11/95 in
most areas, including:
- Thurs. 5/11/95, 11:00 am, WPIX national cable ch. 11
- Thurs. 5/11/95, 5:00 pm, Phila. PA WPHL ch. 17

>> ALL MY CHILDREN (CC). Airs weekdays at 1:00 pm, ABC.
One of the on-going sub-plots has the (straight) character
Julia Santos volunteering in an AIDS hospice. So far,
they've had a gay man & a straight woman as patients, and
they've been doing a good job with it. It isn't featured
in every episode, but it is popping up fairly often now.

and the societal homophobia that was involved.
