Entertainment Television. Unknown if this profile will
cover Ashe's illness with AIDS, but it seems likely.

>> THE COLOR PURPLE (CC). Airs Sat. 2/18/95, 3:00 pm,
Lifetime cable. In part, this movie is notable for what
it does NOT include: the lesbian relationship between
Shug and Celie in Alice Walker's novel is only barely
suggested in this movie adaptation. Despite this, it is
still a beautiful movie.

This is the episode in which Blanche's gay brother (Monte
Markham) brings home his partner (Michael Ayr).

>> THE WOMEN OF BREWSTER PLACE. Airs Sat. 2/18/95, 6:30
pm, Lifetime cable. This Oprah Winfrey adaptation of the
Gloria Naylor novel DOES include the novel's lesbian
couple. Recommended.

>> BARBRA STREISAND SPEECH: "THE ARTIST AS CITIZEN".

straight male character into that of an elderly woman.
(My apologies, but I can't recall the name of the gay
California comic who appears as Fierstein's lover.)
