From CarolM10@aol.com Sat Dec 10 00:22:27 1994 Subject: Gay TV Shows 12/10/94-12/16/94 Hi, folks! This is note #1 (of 4) of the list of tv shows with gay, lesbian, other sexual minority, and gay/straight AIDS themes, for the tv week of Sat 12/10/94-Fri 12/16/94. Be sure to read notes #2 - 4 also. Times are Eastern. ********************************************************** The following shows air at multiple/various times: >> THE RIDE, PART 7 (CC): TV Guide says "Part 7 visits Dallas, where two sexually active teens face an AIDS test. Also profiled: the young woman's former boyfriend, a 19- year- old Cambodian immigrant." Look for this show on your PBS station's programming guide. Airings include: - Sat. 12/10/94, 11:30 pm, on Camden NJ WNJS ch. 23 and Trenton NJ WNJT ch. 52. (Beware of pledge breaks!) >> I WAS A MALE WAR BRIDE. TV Guide describes this as "B/W (1949) Ann Sheridan and Cary Grant in a broad, racy romp about a French Army officer who resorts to female impersonation to accompany his WAC wife to the U.S." No gay content, but may interest the TV readers. Airs: - Sun. 12/11/94, 7:00 pm, American Movie Classics (AMC) - Sun-Mon, 12/11-12/94, 3:00 am, AMC >> IN THE LIFE. Lesbian, gay, & bi entertainment show. IMPORTANT NOTE: According to Phila. PA WYBE ch. 35's monthly programming guide, IN THE LIFE has announced a new format. Instead of monthly 1/2-hour shows, they say that IN THE LIFE will now have quarterly hour-long shows. I found no note of this in the IN THE LIFE program guide, but show #401 is an hour long, so it is probably correct. - Season Premiere show #401: Excellent episode featuring playwright Terrence McNally; actress Amanda Bearse; 'two- spirit' Native American lesbians & gays; and employees from AT&T and HBO Time Warner who discuss being openly gay in the workplace. Some PBS stations are still airing this episode, so check your local PBS and public access schedule. Known scheduled airings include: - Buffalo, NY: Mon. 12/12/94, 9:00 pm, WNEQ ch. 23 >> PERSONAL BEST. 1982 movie about two female Olympic athletes (Mariel Hemingway & Patrice Donnelly) who are involved in a lesbian relationship. Scott Glenn plays their incredibly obnoxious, misogynistic male coach. Although some women liked this movie, most of the lesbians I know hated it because of its very male-oriented depiction. Airs: - Mon-Tues., 12/12-13/94, midnight, Bravo cable - Tues. 12/13/94, 6:00 pm, Bravo >> FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME. This series will feature TWO DIFFERENT EPISODES on gay athletes, so watch both: - #1: Tues. 12/13/94, 7:00 pm, The Sports Network (TSN) - #2: Wed. 12/14/94, 7:00 pm, The Sports Network >> MAURY POVICH: LEAVING ONE'S HUSBAND FOR A WOMAN (CC). Bernstein is observed teaching, and in rehearsal and performance clips that include TV's 'Omnibus' and his 'Young People's Concerts.' Also: scenes from 'On the Waterfront'."
