>> WORLD AIDS DAY / DAY WITHOUT ART - AIDS PROGRAMMING.
Thurs. 12/1/94 is the annual World AIDS Day, also known as
the "Day Without Art" in recognition of the losses that
the art world has faced to AIDS. Look for special AIDS-
related programming efforts on news shows, network &
syndicated talk shows, soap operas, PBS stations, etc.
Many museums/galleries will also drape curtains over the
work produced by individuals who have died of the disease.
(Note: In the past, CNN has done a lot of programming
around World AIDS Day & the events that mark it worldwide,
so you may wish to catch their news broadcasts.)

The following shows air once this week as far as I know:

>> JUST ONE OF THE GUYS. Airs Sat. 11/26/94, 3:00 pm,
Comedy Central. Well-done 1985 movie about a high school
girl who cross-dresses as a boy and enrolls in another
school to research sexism for a newspaper article. When
she falls for a guy at the school, the classmates assume
that she is a gay male.

>> JUSTICE FILES. Airs Sat. 11/26/94, 10:00 pm, Discovery
channel. TV Guide says: " 'Ethnic cleansing is their
message, and violence is their method,' says host John
Quinones of hate groups in the US in this report on hate
crimes and prejudice." Unknown if this show will address
anti-gay hate crimes, but it seems likely. Either way, it
sounds like a show worth watching.

*************** CONTINUED FROM NOTE #2 ******************

>> PROTOCOL (CC). Airs Sun. 11/27/94, 2:30 pm, HBO.
Goldie Hawn stars in this comedy about a waitress who
becomes a diplomat. Her housemates and best friends are a
gay male couple, who are portrayed positively.

>> MADONNA: INNOCENCE LOST (CC). Airs Tues. 11/29/94,
8:00 pm, Fox (includ. Phila. PA WTXF ch. 29). An original
"unauthorized biography" of the musician, which includes
coverage of her "career choices, personal relationships
and romantic entanglements" (TV Guide). Sounds like this
is likely to address her relationships with various women.

>> NYPD BLUE (CC). Airs Tues. 11/29/94, 10:00 pm, ABC.
Among the plots this evening: "Martinez and Lesniak
investigate shots fired at a man whose ex-girlfriends
blame him for infecting them with HIV."- TV Guide.

>> A DIFFERENT STORY. Airs Thurs. 12/1/94, 2:30 pm,
Showtime cable. This is a very weird 1978 movie in which
a gay man (Perry King) and a lesbian (Meg Foster) become a
couple.

>> SEINFELD (CC). Airs Thurs. 12/1/94, 9:00 pm, NBC. TV
Guide says: "An odor in Jerry's car permeates the love
lives of both Elaine and Kramer, who steals a woman
(Viveka Davis) away from George's ex (Heidi Swedberg)."
Elsewhere, they say: "Does George drive women to other
women? Does Kramer bring them back? A wild Seinfeld
repeat tackles these issues..."

>> ROSEANNE (CC). Airs Thurs. 12/1/94, 11:00 pm, Phila.
PA WGBS ch. 57. May or may not air in daily syndicated
reruns in other cities, so check your local listings.
This is the show in which Roseanne is angry at dept. store
Rodbell's when it forces employees to take a lie detector
test because she thinks they're trying to find out if Leon
(Martin Mull) is gay. (They aren't, but he is.)

>> AND THE BAND PLAYED ON (CC). Airs Fri. 12/2/94, 1:00
pm, HBO. Extremely powerful, original HBO movie made from
Randy Shilts' superb book about the early history of AIDS
in the US. The extraordinary cast includes Alan Alda,
Matthew Modine, Lily Tomlin, Sir Ian McKellen, Richard
Gere, Phil Collins, Anjelica Huston, Steve Martin, and
others. If you haven't seen this one yet, folks, tape it.

>> BITTER HARVEST. Airs Fri-Sat., 12/2-3/94, 4:20 am,
HBO. TV Guide says: "A menage a trois between a naive
rancher (Stephen Baldwin) and two drifters (Jennifer
Rubin, Patsy Kensit)."
