bodies. It takes a while for Baldwin to figure out that
his wife's body is housing an old man's brain &
personality. Not a gay film, but has a few interesting

Hi, folks! This is note #2 (of 2) of the list of tv shows
with gay, lesbian, other sexual minority, and gay/straight
AIDS themes, for the tv week of Sat 02/26/94-Fri 03/04/94.
Be sure to read note #1 also. All times Eastern.

*************** CONTINUED FROM NOTE #1 ******************

>> ROSEANNE. Airs Tues. 3/1/94, 9:00 pm, ABC. (Note that
ABC is airing 2 Roseannes Tuesday night. This one is
going to be the 9:00 show, not the 8:30 show.) This is
the episode that's gotten so much publicity lately. TV
Guide says: "Roseanne is kissed by Nancy's lesbian lover
(played by Mariel Hemingway) in a scene that prompted ABC
to consider refusing to air this episode. Controversy
aside, the episode is both thoughtful and amusing, and the
kiss leads Roseanne to do some soul-searching over matters
of trust, with Nancy and with Dan." Later, they write:
"Roseanne is the life of the party at a gay bar, until
Nancy's girlfriend (Mariel Hemingway) plants a kiss on
her." The rest of the episode deals with her reactions to
this kiss (which apparently freaks her out a bit), and
with her telling husband Dan about it.

>> BRAIN SEX. Airs Tues. 3/1/94, 10:00 pm, Discovery
cable. The influence of hormones on sexual identity.

>> BASIC INSTINCT. Airs Tues-Wed., 3/1-2/94, midnight,
The Movie Channel. Incredibly homophobic 1992 film about
a murder investigation. The film has four lesbian and
bisexual women characters - all of whom are murderers or
mass murderers!

>> PICKET FENCES. Airs Wed.-Thurs., 3/2-3/94, 12:35 am,
CBS. The second network tv this week to focus on a
woman-woman kiss. CBS is using this late night slot to
rerun the episode in which teen daughter Kimberly kisses a
female friend (off-camera), and then questions her own
sexuality. Kimberly decides she's straight, the friend
decides she's gay, & their parents all freak out a bit.

>> JFK (CC). Airs Wed-Thurs., 3/2-3/94, 2:45 am, HBO.
Oliver Stone's conspiracy theories about JFK's
assassination. Among the numerous suspects he provides
are some incredibly stereotyped homosexual men.

>> MEDUSA: DARE TO BE TRUTHFUL. Airs Thurs. 3/3/94, 11:30
pm, Showtime cable. Parody of the Madonna Truth or Dare
movie, with comedienne Julie Brown playing Madonna. I've
never seen this, but folks who have say that it also
parodies the gay content of the Truth or Dare movie.

>> GREAT PERFORMANCES. Airs Fri. 3/4/94, 9:00 pm, most
PBS stations. A tribute to Broadway composer Jerry
Herman. The night of performances include George Hearn's
version of "I Am What I Am", the powerful song from the
gay Tony-winning musical LA CAGE AUX FOLLES.

One final note: A Masterpiece Theater series, TO PLAY THE KING, is still
airing in some places. The king's advisor in this series is gay and has a
long-term partner, and gay plot themes have been seen in the series. Check
your local PBS listings if you're interested in more details.

That's it for this week's tv shows. Read note #1 also!
