Date: Wed, 27 Sep 1995 09:22:08 -0400 (EDT) From: Joshua Gamson Subject: have you been on a talk show? Hi. I am a sociologist at Yale University, beginning a book project on daytime television talk shows and sex/gender nonconformity, and I'm looking for people who have appeared on topic-oriented daytime talk shows (e.g., Geraldo, Ricki Lake, Donahue, Jerry Springer, etc.). Basically, my research is about the ways talk programs about lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transsexuals, and transgendered people tend to be produced, and the experiences of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transsexuals, and transgendered people on these shows. A large part of the study is based on interviews with former guests. Have you (or someone you know) ever been on one of these shows? If so, can I interview you about it? Right now I am collecting contacts, and will be interviewing people over the next few months. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who is interested and willing to participate. If that's you, please send your name, location, the topic and rough date of the show on which you appeared (e.g., "I was on Sally Jessy Raphael in December 1993 on a show about lipstick lesbians"), *directly* to me at: jgamson@minerva.cis.yale.edu If you can also let me know if you have a videotape of your appearance, I'd appreciate knowing that. Any other comments are also welcome. Please feel free to forward this post to other relevant spots. Thanks very much for your help.
