Zamora, 22, was featured on the MTV series ``The Real World'' and testified before Congress on AIDS in 1993. He was reportedly near death Thursday from complications caused by the disease. Under an agreement reached early last month, the United States will admit 20,000 Cubans per year and Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, R-Fla, helped arrange for members of Zamora's family, including his four brothers, to be among the first Cubans to be admitted. Zamora immigrated to Florida from Haiti 14 years ago. He contracted AIDS in 1989 when he was a high school student in Hialeah, a Miami suburb. The Miami Herald reported Thursday that President Clinton called Zamora last Friday to thank him for alerting young Americans about the danger of AIDS. ``I recorded the conversation,'' Mily Zamora, Pedro's sister, told the Herald. ``It was a very emotional moment for all of us, even though Pedro may not have realized who was calling.'' NOTE: There's unconfirmed rumor on American Online that Pedro did pass away on Thursday night at about 10pm. This is yet to be confirmed.
