4/11/94 - PBS Denies Knuckling Under To Conservative Pressure

PBS Friday denied charges by author Armistead Maupin that it had knuckled
under to conservative pressure when it decided not to co-finance a sequel to
his recently broadcast Tales of the City series, which dealt with gay themes.
It conceded that it had discussed co-financing a sequel, More Tales of the
City, with Britain's Channel Four but had decided not to opt out for
"financial reasons."
