THIS WAY OUT
the international gay & lesbian radio magazine
RUNDOWN for Program #1,001, distributed 06/04/07
(hosted by Greg Gordon and produced with Lucia Chappelle)
March 1977, when the White House was truly "the home of the brave";
Moscow Pride petitioners are bashed and busted, "Tinky Winky"
perseveres in Poland but a "Little Britain" gay smooch is cut,
"pretty repulsive" comments rile Northern Ireland, civil unions crack
the "Granite State," gay bar bans embroil Melbourne and Montreal,
and more global GLBT news

SEGMENT #1 - "NewsWrap": A peaceful Pride protest in Moscow becomes a melee
as anti-queer thugs punch and kick local activists and several foreign
dignitaries as they speak with journalists, while riot police are slow to move in and
then focus their arrests on Pride participants; a Government official
worries that the "Teletubbies'" "Tinky Winky" is too gay for Polish television but
relents, but a "Little Britain" gay kiss is cut, while Northern Ireland
Government Minister Ian Paisley, Jr. causes outrage for saying he's "pretty repulsed"
by gays and lesbians; civil unions for same-gender couples become law in New
Hampshire with the signature of Governor John Lynch; and just who can
patronize gay bars becomes a hot issue in Australia and Canada (written by GREG
GORDON, with thanks to GRAHAM UNDERHILL and REX WOCKNER with BILL KELLEY, and
reported this week by CHARLS HALL and RICK WATTS) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

SEGMENT #2 - "TWO" I.D. by comic performer MARGARET CHO . . . :13
SEGMENT #3 - As the traditional month of Pride brings out the fabulous
floats, heavenly bods and marching bands, it's also the season for reflection on
the progress of the movement for LGBT equality. In March 1977, the
administration of U.S. President Jimmy Carter hosted the first-ever meeting with LGBT
activists at the White House. In commemoration of that event, the NATIONAL GAY
AND LESBIAN TASK FORCE brought some of the participants together for a
telephonic press conference to recall the experience, and assess how its impact is
still being felt in today's queer politics. The conference call was moderated by
current NGLTF Executive Director MATT FOREMAN, and featured comments by
former Carter White House advisor MIDGE COSTANZA and her former assistant MARILYN
HAFT, former U.S. Congressperson ELAINE NOBLE, the REV. TROY PERRY, and
activists FRANK KAMENY, GEORGE REYA, CHARLOTTE BUNCH, and POKEY ANDERSON (edited by
LUCIA CHAPPELLE, with a :28 re-intro and "TWO" I.D. at 7:41 into the
segment/19:28 into the program, and with music from "Walk Right In" performed by GUS
CANNON'S JUG STOMPERS). . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 15:39
