The Court gave the state legislature 180 days to grant lesbian and gay couples all the rights and benefits enjoyed by heterosexual married couples, but left it up to New Jersey legislators to decide whether to call it marriage or something else, most likely civil unions. In New Jersey, as elsewhere, it's not just an abstract political issue. It's a personal one that affects the real lives of same gender couples and their families. Two days after the ruling, one of the lesbian plaintiff couples, SAUNDRA TOBY HEATH AND ALICIA HEATH TOBY, talked about the battle yet ahead with AMY GOODMAN and JUAN GONZALEZ on the program "Democracy Now!" (with intro music from "Married" performed by LIZA MINNELLI) . . 14:10 [www.democracynow.org] Closing Credits/continuity . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1:30 TOTAL PROGRAM TIME . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 28:45 ===================================== * =============================== STATION PROMO COPY: ANNCR: NEXT TIME ON "THIS WAY OUT," A LESBIAN PLAINTIFF COUPLE PUTS A FACE ON THE NEW JERSEY RIGHTS RULING AND DISCUSSES THE BATTLE YET AHEAD...
