[no teases this week] . . . :40 SEGMENT #1 - "NewsWrap": The California Supreme Court orders businesses to treat registered domestic partners the same as married couples, while religious conservative groups get a green light from the Attorney General to circulate petitions for an initiative that would ask voters to eliminate all domestic partner rights in the state; the Judicial Appeals Tribunal of the Cherokee Nation dismisses a lawsuit challenging the registration of the marriage of a lesbian couple; the Board of Trustees of the American Psychiatric Association ratifies the vote at its annual conference to support marriage equality for lesbian & gay couples; the Oregon legislature adjourns without a floor vote on a bill to establish both registered partnerships for same gender couples and civil rights protections for gays & lesbians; Spanish government officials reject constitutional questions some judges have raised about recently-enacted marriage equality legislation there, in addition to any barriers to marriages by bi-national queer couples, while some British registrars are resisting presiding at "civil partnership" registrations due to begin there in December, and the Church of England grapples with adhering to that civil law amidst the growing schism in the Anglican Communion over lesbigay issues; the Presbyterian Church of East Africa votes to refuse to work with any church or group it believes supports homosexuality; Jamaica's government seems finally ready to consider decriminalizing homosexual acts -- but only in the context of curbing the spread of HIV -- while a tourism leader in another Caribbean Island, St. Lucia, wonders if the gender-neutral marriage laws there would enable locals to enjoy what he calls a "huge market" of wedding and honeymooning same gender couples (written by CINDY FRIEDMAN, with thanks to Graham Underhill, Rex Wockner, and Greg Gordon, and reported by CINDY FRIEDMAN & JON BEAUPRE) [10:45] + Teen blogger Zach: the saga seems to have ended (a quick update written by JERRY TROWBRIDGE) [:40] + "Pursuit of Equality" billboard [:15]. . 11:40 SEGMENT #2 - The name RODNEY CROOME is almost synonymous with the struggle for LGBT rights in AUSTRALIA. Spokesperson for the Tasmanian Gay and Lesbian Rights Group, Croome led the long campaign to decriminalize homosexuality in his state and to pass some of the most progressive laws in the country. But he says there's still plenty more work to be done. This Way Out correspondent JOHN FRAME ["QueerRadio"/4ZZZ-Brisbane] had a chance to ask Croome what keeps him going, and what he thinks the next steps should be. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 7:00 [www.rodneycroome.id.au/weblog] SEGMENT #3 - "TWO" I.D. by San Francisco Mayor GAVIN NEWSOM [:10] + Some politicos say he deserves all the credit -- some give him all the blame -- for the 29 days that shook up a nation. SAN FRANCISCO MAYOR GAVIN NEWSOM was the star of that real-life drama, and now he's the star of the documentary "PURSUIT OF EQUALITY". It's a blow-by-blow account of what happened in City Hall between February 12th, 2004 -- the first day marriage licenses were issued to gay and lesbian couples -- and March 11th, when the California Supreme Court ordered them stopped. Even though the marriages were later voided by the state, Newsom's action was not in vain. Last March a San Francisco Superior Court judge declared California's ban on same-gender marriage unconstitutional, setting the stage for a future state Supreme Court ruling. This Way Out's STEVE PRIDE has preview clips, comments by "Pursuit of Equality"'s co-directors GEOFF CALLAN and MIKE SHAW, and chats with Mayor Newsom (with music from the film by JOSH GROBAN) [8:25] . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 8:35 [PursuitofEquality.com; PrideOnScreen.com] Closing Credits/continuity . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1:05 TOTAL PROGRAM TIME . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 29:00 ===================================== * =============================== STATION PROMO COPY: ANNCR: NEXT TIME ON "THIS WAY OUT", SAN FRANCISCO'S "MARRYIN' MAYOR" GAVIN NEWSOM GOES TO THE MOVIES, WHILE AUSSIE ACTIVIST RODNEY CROOME URGES DEFIANTLY BEING A "BIG TARGET"...
