USAGE LIMITED ONLY BY TIMELINESS OF NEWS CONTENT! => RUNDOWN <= Opening teases/theme music/intro continuity . . . . . . . . . . . . 1:10 SEGMENT #1 - "NewsWrap": Slovenia's parliament gives final approval to a bill creating limited registered partnerships for same gender couples, but some queer activist groups are unhappy that it doesn't go far enough, while the Czech parliament gives overwhelming support to the first reading of a registered partnerships bill there, and the Berlin Administrative Court bolsters registered partnerships in Germany by ordering "spouse" in pension benefit plans to include the registered partners of same gender couples; Spain's Senate feels religious heat and rejects the Government's marriage equality bill, but it's still expected to pass in the parliament within the next few days, despite a march by hundreds of thousands against it in Madrid led by the nation's top Roman Catholic clergy; meanwhile, hundreds march in a "Normal Parade" in Warsaw, Poland to protest last week's queer Equality March, and Israel's Interior Minister overrules city officials who'd vowed to block it and green-lights Jerusalem's 4th annual pride march set for June 30th; thanks to some clever political maneuvering by the ruling Liberal Party minority government it now appears that Canada's marriage equality bill is back on track for passage, perhaps even in the coming week, while a court ruling adds the province of New Brunswick to the regional jurisdictions in Canada where same gender couples can legally marry; Canada's Anglicans and U.S. Episcopalians defend their pro-queer theologies before the global Anglican Consultative Council, but agree to temporarily withdraw from active membership on the Council for three years; and in what is probably the week's most unusual Pride observance, members of the (U.S.) National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce ring the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange (written by CINDY FRIEDMAN, with thanks to Graham Underhill, Rex Wockner, and Greg Gordon, and reported this week by CINDY FRIEDMAN & RICK WATTS) [10:45] + "Superstar" billboard [:15]. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 11:00 SEGMENT #2 - Have you seen the 1999 Jamie Babbit movie "But I'm a Cheerleader?" Or maybe you're familiar with so-called gay "change" ministries like Exodus or Desert Stream. If so, you'll know that this story isn't a new one. A 16 year old boy in Bartlett, Tennessee comes out to his parents, only to be sent to a "reparative therapy ministry" in hopes that he'll emerge a happy heterosexual. But this time there's an unexpected twist in the tale, thanks to a support group the teenager didn't even know he had -- and thanks to the Internet's ability to forge such alliances in just days instead of months. This Way Out correspondent JERRY TROWBRIDGE logs in with his take on this story (includes comments by his fellow bloggers E.J. FRIEDMAN, TERRENCE HEATH, PETERSON TOSCANO, OL' CRANKY and BEN GARRETT). . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 8:05 SEGMENT #3 - "TWO" I.D. by JANIS IAN [:10] + CRAIG B. HIGHBERGER's book "SUPERSTAR IN A HOUSEDRESS - THE LIFE AND LEGEND OF JACKIE CURTIS" (Penguin) has a surprise ending: wedged in the back of the book is a DVD of Highberger's award-winning documentary of the same name, narrated by LILY TOMLIN. So just who was Jackie Curtis? In the heyday of Andy Warhol's legendary hub of art, subculture, and insanity known as The Factory, Jackie Curtis was a cross-dressing phenomenon whose personal life was even wilder than anything onstage or onscreen. Highberger met Curtis in the fall of 1972 when he was a freshman at NYU film school, and was a close friend of the Warhol superstar for the next thirteen years. Both his book and film are loving memorials to Curtis -- who died tragically of a drug overdose in 1985. This Way Out's STEVE PRIDE has clips from the documentary and chats with Highberger about his friend Jackie (with intro music from "Walk On The Wild Side" written & performed by LOU REED, and very brief outro music from "Who Are You" performed by JACKIE CURTIS) [7:00] . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 7:10 [www.jackiecurtis.com, www.PrideOnScreen.com] Closing Credits/continuity . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1:25 TOTAL PROGRAM TIME . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 28:50 ===================================== * =============================== STATION PROMO COPY: ANNCR: NEXT TIME ON "THIS WAY OUT," BLOG-BORN PROTESTS AIM TO RESCUE A GAY TENNESSEE TEEN FROM "CONVERSION", AND A WARHOL SUPERSTAR MOVES FROM "HOUSEDRESS" TO HISTORY... IN THE NEWS, RESERVATIONS ABOUND AROUND SLOVENIA'S NEW PARTNER LAW, CZECH LAWMAKERS GIVE INITIAL APPROVAL TO THEIR REGISTRATION BILL, AND PARTNER RIGHTS ARE EXPANDED IN GERMANY, WHILE THE SPANISH SENATE'S DISAPPROVAL WON'T DERAIL MARRIAGE EQUALITY LEGISLATION, NOR DOES IT SEEM THAT TORY OPPOSITION CAN BLOCK A SIMILAR BILL IN CANADA.
