Bush holds hands with Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah at his Texas ranch, and later asks about "Splash Day" during a speech in Galveston, apparently unaware that it has been a specifically gay male event there for more than a decade (written by CINDY FRIEDMAN, with thanks to Graham Underhill, Rex Wockner, and Greg Gordon; reported this week by CINDY FRIEDMAN & CHRISTOPHER GAAL) . 10:10 SEGMENT #2 - Acceptance by the general public of "out" gays and lesbians in amateur and professional sports seems to slowly be on the rise. An April "Sports Illustrated" magazine poll reported that 86 percent of Americans think that openly gay athletes should not be excluded from team sports, openly-lesbian pro U.S. golfer Rosie Jones and French tennis pro Amelie Mauresmo are successfully competing, and such sports luminaries as Martina Navratilova, Greg Louganis, Mark Tewksbury, Ian Roberts, and Esera Tuaolo, all of whom came out after their glory years, continue to enjoy wide popularity. Last week AUSTRALIAN media widely reported the self-outing of a high profile gay athlete there. Popular twenty-seven-year-old gymnast JI WALLACE won the Silver medal in the Sydney 2000 Olympics in his favorite discipline, the Trampoline, which was a first for Australia, and in 1996 he was World Champion in the Double Mini-trampoline. Now, with his eyes firmly fixed on Gold at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, "Jumping Ji" Wallace has decided to let everyone know that he's very glad to be gay. This Way Out correspondent JOHN FRAME [4ZZZ-FM/Brisbane's "Queer Radio"] chats with Wallace about why he decided to come out at this point in his career, and the reaction of family, friends, and the Australian sports world to his announcement (with a :10 "TWO" I.D. by Ji Wallace at about 7:40 into this segment/19:05 into the program, and intro/outro music from "Let's Get Jumpin'" by LADY BUNNY/www.ladybunny.net). . . . . 16:00 Closing Credits/continuity . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1:40 TOTAL PROGRAM TIME . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 28:55 ===================================== * =============================== STATION PROMO COPY: ANNCR: NEXT TIME ON "THIS WAY OUT," AUSTRALIA'S MEDAL-WINNING OLYMPICS GYMNAST "JUMPIN' JI" WALLACE LEAPS OUT OF THE CLOSET...
