Such scandalous stories have made the issues of privacy, hypocrisy, and sexual orientation front-page news. But is it good journalism to cover a public figure's sexuality because they support anti-queer legislation? Where does "outing" stop and reporting begin? The Los Angeles Chapter of the National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association recently held a community forum entitled "POLITICALLY SPEAKING: SHOULD POLITICIANS BE 'OUTED' BY THE MEDIA?" They found the answer wasn't an easy one. CHRISTOPHER LISOTTA ("TV Weekly," "The Advocate") moderated an all-star panel of journalists that included MARTHA FLORES ("Los Angeles Times"), MIKE LINDER (KNX 1070 Newsradio, Los Angeles), SIMON BOUIE (KCBS-TV/KCAL-TV, Los Angeles) and SEAN SMITH ("Newsweek"). NLGJA Los Angles Chapter President and "This Way Out" regular STEVE PRIDE produced this "highlights reel" (with brief outro music from "Queers In The Closet" by ROMANOVSKY & PHILLIPS). . . . 6:50 [www.nlgja-la.com] SEGMENT #3 - "TWO" I.D. by famed storyteller ARMISTEAD MAUPIN ("Tales of the City" and many others) [:10] + A pop-inspired "hom-ensemble" (excerpts from "This Boy" and "Xanadu" from CAPTAIN SMARTYPANTS' "UNDERCOVER"), a fan-assisted acoustic artist ("I've Gotta Thing For You" and "Oh, My Dear Child" from ELLIS' "EVIDENCE OF JOY"), and an ethereal traveler from darkness into light (the title track and "The Prodigal" from SACHA SACKET's "SHADOWED") are the marvelous musicians featured in this month's "Audiofile" (with comments by the artists about their music, hosted by CHRIS WILSON & JD DOYLE, and written and produced with CHRISTOPHER DAVID TRENTHAM) [www.audiofile.org] [7:45] . . 7:55 = artist contact info = CAPTAIN SMARTYPANTS ELLIS SACHA SACKET PO Box 20146 Rubberneck Records Golden Sphinx Records Seattle, WA 98102 PO Box 7098 PO Box 8148 elb@ericlanebarnes.com Minneapolis, MN 55407 Calabasas, CA 91372 www.captainsmartypants.com info@rubberneckrecords.com sacha@sachasacket.com www.rubberneckrecords.com www.sachasacket.com SEGMENT #4 - Promo for next week's special program "audio diary" documenting the recent cross-country U.S. Marriage Equality Caravan: "Love Exile on the Road" . . . :40 Closing continuity/credits . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1:20 TOTAL PROGRAM TIME . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 28:55 ==================================== * ================================ STATION PROMO COPY: ANNCR: NEXT TIME ON "THIS WAY OUT," QUEER JOURNALISTS DEBATE MEDIA COVERAGE, COVER-UPS, AND THE POLITICS OF "OUTING"...
