Bush-championed Federal Marriage Amendment to the U.S. Constitution to restrict marriage exclusively to "a man and a woman" falls far short of the two-thirds majority it needs to advance; and a satirical send-up graces the official Oregon Voters' Pamphlet (written by CINDY FRIEDMAN, with thanks to GRAHAM UNDERHILL, REX WOCKNER, and GREG GORDON, and reported this week by RICK WATTS & CINDY FRIEDMAN) . . . . . . 10:30 SEGMENT #2 Four years after the most traumatic presidential electtion in the country's history, U.S. lesbian, gay, bi, and trans voters could be a key factor in another closer-than-close finish on November 2nd -- and queer-related issues on the ballot in several hotly-contested states are also expected to have an impact. If the stakes weren't high enough, the outcome could have a profound effect on the GLBT rights movement well beyond the next four years, since the next President will be naming at the very least one U.S. Supreme Court Justice, in addition to making hundreds of other federal court appointments -- and it's clear that another Bush Administration and Republican-controlled Congress would reject any judicial candidate who might consider a constitutional right to equal marriage. Although the national LOG CABIN REPUBLICANS stopped short of endorsing Bush's candidacy -- largely because of his promotion of the Federal Marriage Amendment -- they remain fierce party loyalists. The STONEWALL DEMOCRATS are going all out for Senator John Kerry based on his strong pro-gay record, despite his opposition to full marriage equality. This Way Out correspondent CURTIS KRICK examines the positions of the partisan activists, as well as the proclivities of LGBT people at the polls, with comments by Log Cabin Republicans/Los Angeles President TERRY HAMILTON, former Stonewall Democratic Club of Los Angeles president and current Chair of the Los Angeles Democratic Party ERIC BAUMAN, current Stonewall Democratic Club of Los Angeles President MICHAEL ANDRAYCHAK, and veteran queer press elections analyst LISA KEEN ["TWO" I.D. by Academy Award-winning "Chicago" screenwriter BILL CONDON (:15) and re-intro (:05) begin at 8:10 into this segment/19:55 into the program]. . . . . . 13:25 [www.logcabin.org, www.stonewalldemocrats.org; Lisa Keen's reports on the 2004 U.S. elections can be found at www.frontiersnewsmagazine.com] SEGMENT #3 - U.S. religious right star Gary Bauer now heads AMERICANS UNITED TO PRESERVE MARRIAGE and its new broadcast ad campaign attacking Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry -- hear one of their :30 spots -- followed by a little ditty from self-described singer/songwriter/ parking lot attendant JAMIE ANDERSON, "Woe To The World" . . . . . 2:35 [www.jamieanderson.com] Closing continuity/credits . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1:15 TOTAL PROGRAM TIME . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 29:00 ==================================== * ================================ STATION PROMO COPY: ANNCR: NEXT TIME ON "THIS WAY OUT," QUEER PARTISANS AND A PUNDIT TAKE ON THE U.S. PINK VOTE...
