[no opening teases this week] . . . :40 SEGMENT #1 "NewsWrap": A Bourdeaux court declares France's firstt same gender marriage null and void, while an Incheon District court rules that South Korea's law recognizes only heterosexual marriages, and a legally-married but now estranged Ontario lesbian couple awaits judicial review of Canada's divorce law, which currently specifies "a man or a woman who are married to each other"; a Church of Scotland minister in Edinburgh is believed to be his church's first to preside at a gay couple's wedding ceremony, and the Church of England's General Synod narrowly rejects proposed new rules that could have resulted in heresy trials for clergy who ordained sexually active gays or lesbians or even preached supportive sermons; Poland's Senate approves a bill to create registered partnerships for lesbian & gay couples, while newly-out Guido Westerwelle, leader of Germany's conservative Free Democrats, urges greater marriage equality for same gender couples; in the U.S., openly-queer politicians and a large contingent of GLBT delegates get a warm welcome at the Democratic National Convention in Boston but pro-queer policies are given a relatively-low profile [includes a brief excerpt from the "primetime" healthcare policy speech by openly lesbian Wisconsin Congressmember TAMMY BALDWIN], while the American Psychological Association -- the country's largest such organization -- declares its support for marriage equality and denounces discrimination against gay & lesbian couples and their children; on their first day of eligibility, about four dozen queer couples line up at the Maine statehouse to register their domestic partnerships that carry legal standing in areas including inheritance and next-of-kin status; and in early 2005 the U.S. city of Springfield will start marrying queer couples -- but no one knows which state it's in because it's the hometown of TV's long-running cartoon series "The Simpsons" -- and its producers announce that the episode will also "out" a longtime character, but warn against jumping to conclusions as to which one ["Doh!"] (written by CINDY FRIEDMAN, with thanks to GRAHAM UNDERHILL, FENCEBERRY, REX WOCKNER and GREG GORDON, and reported this week by CINDY FRIEDMAN & DEAN ELZINGA) [10:05] + "TWO" I.D. by openly-gay Olympics diving champ GREG LOUGANIS (with introductory "splash") [:10]. . . 10:15 SEGMENT #2 - Openly queer politicians and a record number of GLBT delegates were warmly welcomed at the DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL CONVENTION in BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS during the last week of July, but pro-queer policies were given a relatively low profile compared with some previous DNC quadrennials. The official party platform approved at the Convention does "support full inclusion of gay and lesbian families in the life of our nation and seek equal responsibilities, benefits, and protections for these families," and Democratic Presidential nominee JOHN KERRY got one of the biggest ovations during his acceptance speech when he blasted George W. Bush's vocal support of the so-called "Federal Marriage Amendment". Several openly-lesbian and -gay speakers addressed the Convention -- albeit for the most part out of "primetime" -- but gay people were mentioned during "primetime" by others in the context of "inclusiveness," one of the Convention's oft-repeated themes. You'll hear excerpts from Keynote Speaker and candidate for the U.S. Senate from Illinois BARACK OBAMA, venerable U.S. Senator from Massachusetts TED KENNEDY, and former Democratic Presidential candidate REV. AL SHARPTON; most of the podium speech of CHERYL JACQUES, former Massachusetts state Senator and now Executive Director of the Human Rights Campaign; and virtually the entire "departure-from-the-teleprompter" speech of U.S. Congressmember from Massachusetts BARNEY FRANK. We also turn to veteran gay journalist REX WOCKNER, who was in Boston covering the DNC, for his assessment of the proceedings, and a brief forecast of what to expect at the Republican National Convention in late August in New York City. . . . . . . . 16:45 Closing continuity/credits . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1:10 TOTAL PROGRAM TIME . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 28:50 ----------------------------Please note-------------------------------- Anyone with questions, suggestions, or *news stories* is encouraged to email Coordinating Producer Greg Gordon at TWOradio@aol.co ----------------------------- thanks! --------------------------------- STATION PROMO COPY: ANNCR: NEXT TIME ON "THIS WAY OUT," U.S. DEMO-QUEERS GET "KERRY"ED AWAY AT THE NATIONAL CONVENTION...
