is sentenced to 5-1/2 years in prison for sodomy, sex with underage teens and 
running a brothel in what international journalist and human rights groups 
assert were trumped up charges meant to silence his critical writings about the 
government;  a suspected serial murderer of gay men is arrested in Beijing, 
while in Vancouver the teen accused in the high-profile gay-bashing death of 
Aaron Webster pleads guilty to manslaughter, but faces no more than 3 years in 
prison as a juvenile offender;  skinheads attack pride marchers in Stockholm, 
and an assault against a lesbian couple mars an otherwise joyous pride 
celebration in Brighton;  the appointment of openly gay Carsten Damsgaard as Denmark's 
ambassador to Israel sparks an altercation in Copenhagen;  a queer kiss-in 
attracts thousands to a Sao Paulo mall;  a 7-2 vote by its City Council makes 
South Sydney the first in Australia to create a domestic partners registry, while 
the San Francisco Board of Supervisors unanimously votes to recognize 
domestic partners who have registered or contracted a civil union in any other 
jurisdiction;  California's state Board of Equalization extends to registered 
domestic partners the same status as married couples for inheriting property, but 
the move must still pass muster with the Office of Administrative Law, while the 
California Supreme Court upholds the legality of second parent adoptions by 
gay & lesbian partners;  and zoologist Clive Bromhall, promoting his new book 
"The Eternal Child" at the Edinburgh Book Festival, tells reporters that his 
research suggests that "homosexuals are at the pinnacle of human evolution"

ASSOCIATION -- the largest association of attorneys in the U.S. -- passed a 
resolution calling on states to recognize gay & lesbian second-parent adoptions, and 
to allow those couples to adopt unrelated children together as well.  With

Francisco (with comments by University of California, Berkeley adoption law

SEGMENT #3 -  "TWO" I.D. by self-described slutty bisexual comedian MARGARET 
CHO [:15]  +  A pioneering actor in the independent film world, CRAIG CHESTER 
made his name in what's been called the Queer New Wave Cinema of the 1990's.  
His role in the drama "Swoon" scored Chester a 1993 Independent Spirit Award 
nomination, and he's also appeared in such genre-defining films as "Grief," 
"Frisk," "David Searching," and "Kiss Me Guido."  It's all chronicled in 
Chester's memoir, "WHY THE LONG FACE: THE ADVENTURES OF A TRULY INDEPENDENT ACTOR," 
published by St. Martin's Press.  This Way Out's STEVE PRIDE chats with Chester 
about the title of his book, and about being and acting gay (with outro music
