SEGMENT #1 ­  NewsWrap:  Despite last week's edict against it by primates of 
the 70-million-member worldwide Anglican church, one of the clergy in 6 
parishes authorized by their bishop to do so in Canada's Vancouver-area New 
Westminster Diocese conducts a ceremony blessing "permanent and faithful" gay male 
couple Michael Kalmuk & Kelly Montfort's more than 20-year union, while Canadian 
politicians continue to slowly acknowledge that some secular form of same 
gender marriage is inevitable there;  Sweden announces that it will now register 
its citizens' same gender partnerships at its embassies in Lisbon, Madrid and 
Paris;  Puerto Rico's Supreme Court reaffirms its earlier ruling that same 
gender couples should not be covered by the Law Against Domestic Violence;  Texas 
Republican Governor Rick Perry signs a bill into law prohibiting the state 
from recognizing civil unions (such as those that can be contracted in Vermont) 
or same gender marriages another state may someday perform;  Roman Catholic 
bishops preach anti-queer politics to voters in Massachusetts and Mexico, while 
delegates to the General Assembly of the 2.5-million-member Presbyterian Church 
USA decide to put off considering ordination of non-celibate gays & lesbians 
until at least 2006;  the Boy Scouts of America faces protests of its anti-gay 
policy in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania outside its annual national meeting, 
even as the local Cradle of Liberty BSA Council unanimously votes to buck the 
national hierarchy and add sexual orientation to its own non-discrimination 
statement;  Kentucky Democratic Governor Paul Patton signs an executive order 
banning discrimination in state employment on grounds including sexual orientation 
and gender identity;  the Upper House of the Australian state of New South 
Wales votes, as did the Lower House previously, to equalize the age of consent at 
16, and Tasmania's Law Reform Institute recommends equal adoption rights for 
gay & lesbian couples;  openly gay director Gus Van Sant is victorious at 
Cannes for his Columbine-like drama "Elephant", while it's close but no cigar for 
Russia's faux lesbian duo TATU at the Eurovision Song Contest  [written by

SEGMENT #3 ­  THE NETHERLANDS has the reputation around the world as a place 
where gays & lesbians have achieved absolute legal equality.  That image was 
established even before the nation extended full marriage rights to same-gender 
couples 2 years ago.  It's safe to assume that lesbian & gay students and 
teachers are able to be safely "out" on Dutch schoolyards, too, right?  
Surprising even its researchers, a recently published report from the COC - the Dutch 
association for the integration of homosexuality - reveals that attitudes 
towards queer teachers and pupils have, in fact, deteriorated; many feel 
increasingly isolated by bullying, name-calling, and even physical abuse.  Most school 
staff and administrators would rather not address the subject of homosexuality 
at all, preferring to avoid difficult discussions with pupils and parents from 
the country's growing immigrant populations.  The COC has called on the 
government to take measures to address the problem, but in a special feature from 
the RADIO NETHERLANDS program "Dutch Horizons" hosted by BERTINE KROL, reporter 
ILONA DE BOK discovers that legislation alone may not be the ultimate 
"vaccine" against homophobia [with comments by ROB TIELMAN of Utrecht University, the 
sociologist who conducted the research; HENK BEERTEN, chairman of COC 
Nederland; 15-year veteran math teacher SIEP DE HAAN; and students MAURICE DRIESSENS
