Some of them have been detained and forced into deportation proceedings, even after living in the U.S. for many years. One of them is 34-year-old KESHAV JIWNANI, who was born in KARACHI, PAKISTAN but now lives in SAN FRANCISCO, where he has helped build the local psy-trance music scene as a popular DJ. For several years, "KJ" avoided the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service because he feared returning home to a country where gays & lesbians are often persecuted. Now, Jiwnani may not have a choice. An immigration court will decide his fate this July, where he will face deportation and, if he's forced to return to Pakistan, perhaps even death. With production assistance from PAUL JAFFE, This Way Out's BRYAN GOEBEL reports from San Francisco (includes music from "In Search Of" by PSYCHOID, "Strange Planet" by SILICON SOUND, "Spy Man" by NOMAD & "Holy Bharat" by HARA GOBI). 8:30 [To contribute to KJ's legal fund: www.sflnc.com/kj] (*technical note: portions of this segment, particularly when music is playing, may sound a bit over-modulated) SEGMENT #3 "TWO" I.D. by openly lesbian actress AMANDA BEARSE ("Marcy D'Arcy" on the long-running Fox TV sitcom "Married... With Children") [:10] + DENNIS HENSLEY is a "Renaissance Man" in the truest sense of the word: he's an "Everyman" who seems to be everywhere doing everything. In 1998 he turned a column he was writing for "Detour" magazine into the novel "Misadventures In The (213)", which landed him on the "Los Angeles Times" bestseller list. Then came his debut as a singer/songwriter with his GLAMA nominated CD "The Water's Fine" (from which "The Last Time" is briefly excerpted here). Next he segued into filmmaking as co-writer, co-director and co-star of the 13 minute film fest fave "Evie Harris: Shining Star". Moving on to feature films, he co-wrote the screenplay for "Testosterone", shot in Argentina with Antonio Sabato Jr., David Sutcliffe, Jennifer Coolidge & Sonia Braga, and set for release in a few months. In his dubious spare time Hensley has written "SCREENING PARTY", a new novel from Alyson Publications that's been nominated for a Lambda Book Award and turned into a Fluid Words audiobook featuring KATHY GRIFFIN, ERIN QUILL, MARK SALZBERG and, of course, Dennis Hensley. He makes his own Christmas cards and everyone who meets him claims him as a best friend, including one of his newest, This Way Out's STEVE PRIDE [7:10]. . . . . . . . . . 7:20 [www.DennisHensley.com] Closing Continuity/Credits. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1:20 TOTAL PROGRAM TIME. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 28:50 ----------------------------Please note-------------------------------- Anyone with questions, suggestions, or *news stories* is encouraged to email Coordinating Producer Greg Gordon at TWOradio@aol.co ----------------------------- thanks! --------------------------------- STATION PROMO COPY: ANNCR: NEXT TIME ON "THIS WAY OUT", AMERICA'S "WAR ON TERROR" TARGETS A GAY PAKISTANI D.J., AND QUEER "RENAISSANCE MAN" DENNIS HENSLEY INVITES YOU TO HIS "SCREENING PARTY"...
