Bush in a flirtatious mood when he met Frank's Spanish-speaking partner Sergio [written by CINDY FRIEDMAN, with thanks to GRAHAM UNDERHILL, JASON LIN, BRIAN NUNES, CHRIS AMBIDGE, REX WOCKNER, GREG GORDON & LUCIA CHAPPELLE, and anchored by CHRISTOPHER GAAL & CINDY FRIEDMAN] [9:25] + "TWO" I.D. by openly-gay Oscar-nominated actor SIR IAN McKELLEN (with brief intro music from "An Actor's Life For Me") [:20]. . . . . . . . . . 9:45 SEGMENT #2 - It almost goes without saying that one of the world's biggest parties is SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA'S GAY & LESBIAN MARDI GRAS. This year's three-week Festival leading up to the climatic Parade encompasses more than a hundred events spanning theatre, film, music, visual arts, literature and community, with new events scheduled specifically for queer youth. The 24th annual Mardi Gras was officially launched on February 8th with a celebration in front of the famed Sydney Opera House. Iffy weather kept the crowd smaller than usual, but the estimated 20,000 who did attend were treated to a dramatic demonstration of celestial support as lightening flashed behind the stage all evening. "This Way Out" correspondent MICHAEL SCHEMBRI was on the scene and produced these highlights from the two-hour event, featuring emcees drag artist VANESSA WAGNER and lesbian MC IZZY; the humor of "envious and bitter heterosexual" GRETEL KILEEN, host of the popular Australian version of TV's "Big Brother"; multi-medal-winning Canadian Olympics swimming champ MARK TEWKSBURY, who entertainingly and inspirationally explains how sports saved his life, and how being gay helped him succeed; NAN McGREGOR, the mother of a gay man and a member of both P-FLAG (Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) and the Catholic "Rainbow Sash" Movement, who poignantly describes how and why she defied her Archbishop during a packed Church service; and a sample of Festival entertainment, courtesy of musical comedy star ANGELA TOOHEY and noted flutist JANE RUTTER with an excerpt from "Forget Your Troubles (C'mon Get Happy)" . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 16:25 Closing Continuity/Credits. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1:30 TOTAL PROGRAM TIME. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 28:55 ----------------------------Please note-------------------------------- Anyone with questions, suggestions, or *news stories* is encouraged to email Coordinating Producer Greg Gordon at TWOradio@aol.co ----------------------------- thanks! --------------------------------- STATION PROMO COPY: ANNCR: NEXT TIME ON "THIS WAY OUT", OLYMPICS SWIMMING CHAMP MARK TEWKSBURY AND AN ARCHBISHOP-DEFYING P-FLAG MUM HELP LAUNCH SYDNEY'S GAY AND LESBIAN MARDI GRAS...
