While the participants in that case wait for word on their appeal, marriage rights cases in two other Canadian provinces went to court last month. In Ontario, ten couples are seeking the right to marry, with two of them represented by the Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto. In Quebec, the case is brought by a single couple of long-time activists from Montreal. In this report by HEATHER KITCHING ["Queer FM"/CITR-Vancouver], Montreal litigant MICHAEL HENDRICKS, Toronto litigant JOE VARNELL and plaintiff attorneys DOUGLAS ELLIOTT, CYNTHIA PETERSEN and ANNE-FRANCE GOLDWATER discuss the different legal issues their cases raise and the arguments presented to the courts by the federal government for prohibiting same-gender marriages (with intro music from "Love & Marriage" by FRANK SINATRA and internal music from "Chapel of Love" by the DIXIE CUPS) [9:20]. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 9:35 SEGMENT #3 - "TWO" I.D. by Olympics diving champ GREG LOUGANIS [:05] + The new words and music in this month's "AudioFile" all come from lesbians in their middle ages. One is the debut CD from a new band that plays up its over-40 status -- excerpts from "If It Takes All Night" and "Tuff Luck Buddy" from 4D-YKES' "Hot Flash" -- while the other two new CD's are from singers the community has treasured since they were part of the younger set: "I Ain't Afraid" and "Kids Are Gonna Love" from HOLLY NEAR's "Edge", and the title cut and "Blue Weekend" from CRIS WILLIAMSON's "Ashes" [hosted by CHRIS WILSON & J.D. DOYLE and written & produced with CHRISTOPHER DAVID TRENTHAM, with brief comments by each of the artists] (a voice-over promo for "AudioFile Year In Review 2001" is dropped in over this segment's outro music) [7:25] . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 7:30 =artist contact info= HOLLY NEAR 4D-YKES CRIS WILLIAMSON Box #236 PO Box 130291 Wolf Moon Records Ukiah, CA 95482 Roseville, MN 55113 PO Box 970 holly@hollynear.com grrrlz@4d-ykes.com Marcola, OR 97454-0970 www.hollynear.com www.4d-ykes.com radioquiet@aol.com www.criswilliamson.com Closing Continuity/Credits. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1:30 TOTAL PROGRAM TIME. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 28:55 ----------------------------Please note-------------------------------- Anyone with questions, suggestions, or *news stories* is encouraged to email Coordinating Producer Greg Gordon at TWOradio@aol.co ----------------------------- thanks! --------------------------------- STATION PROMO COPY: ANNCR: NEXT TIME ON "THIS WAY OUT", THERE'S NEW "AUDIOFILE" WORDS AND MUSIC BY 2 LESBIAN LEGENDS AND 4 MINNESOTA 40-SOMETHINGS, AND CANADIAN COUPLES CONTINUE THEIR COURTROOM QUEST FOR MARRIAGE EQUALITY...
