[no teases this week] . . . :40 SEGMENT #1 – NewsWrap: Gays and lesbians across Germany celebrate as same-gender couples unite on the first day of "registered life partnerships"; sweeping law reform proposals, affecting everything from the rights of same-gender couples to the age of consent, are introduced by the West Australian government, while there's a bit of optimism as ENDA, the U.S. bill to prohibit sexual orientation discrimination in employment, is re-introduced in Congress; Hungarian gays and lesbians cheer their first legal court victory over a Budapest district mayor who had tried to bar GLBT exhibits from the huge Pepsi Island youth music festival; the European Union's Enlargement Commissioner confirms in a letter to the International Lesbian & Gay Association (ILGA) that countries hoping to join the EU will have to act against sexual orientation discrimination, but member countries of the Organization of the Islamic Conference succeed in barring ILGA from observer status at the upcoming United Nations World Conference Against Racism; Britain's Court of Appeal rejects harassed lesbian teacher Shirley Pearce's discrimination lawsuit, ruling that the country's Sex Discrimination Act applies only to issues of gender, not of sexual orientation; police arrest 35 in a raid on a gay club near Segambut, Malaysia, while the South Korean government shuts down a leading gay Web site; and a wax likeness of openly-gay award-winning British TV host Graham Norton will soon be on display at London's legendary Madame Tussaud's – but what will he be wearing? [written by CINDY FRIEDMAN, with thanks to GRAHAM UNDERHILL, JASON LIN, BRIAN NUNES, CHRIS AMBIDGE, REX WOCKNER & GREG GORDON; anchored by GREG GORDON & CINDY FRIEDMAN]. . 10:45 SEGMENT #2 - Billboard for B.C. marriage lawsuit update [:10] + Ever since U.S. President George W. Bush's administration unveiled its so-called "faith-based initiative" to allow direct federal funding to religious organizations for social service programs, GLBT activists have been concerned about its possible impact on civil rights: in its current form, it allows such religious groups receiving taxpayer funds to ignore local and state anti-discrimination laws. Although the proposal has already passed the House of Representatives, that body's first open lesbian, TAMMY BALDWIN of Wisconsin, believes there's still hope. She discusses the initiative, and how the anti-queer provisions can be removed, in this conversation with DANIELLE CORCORAN [from "Queery" on WORT-FM in Madison, with thanks to AMBER AULT and JOANNE POWERS] (brief outro music from "Faith" by GEORGE MICHAEL) [6:00]. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 6:10 SEGMENT #3 - "TWO" I.D. by BRUCE VILANCH (peerless openly-gay comedy writer and "the blonde Muppet on 'Hollywood Squares'") [:10] + Canada's first court hearing on same-gender marriage wrapped up on August 2nd after a 9-day hearing in the Supreme Court of British Columbia. The case involves Canada's national queer rights lobby group EGALE (Equality for Gays And Lesbians Everywhere), whose legal team represents five couples in the case, and another group of 3 same-gender couples who call themselves the BC Partners. All are seeking the right to be legally married. Currently under Canadian federal law, same-gender couples and unmarried heterosexual couples have virtually the same rights and responsibilities as married couples. Same-gender couples also enjoy similar equality under British Columbia provincial law. But the parties in the court case believe that society won't see their relationships as truly equal until they are able to participate in the institution of marriage. This comprehensive report by HEATHER KITCHING ["Queer FM"-CITR/Vancouver] includes comments by JUDITH BOWERS, Q.C., representing the Attorney General of Canada; JOHN FISHER, Executive Director of EGALE; CINDY SILVER, lawyer for the BC Coalition for Marriage and the Family, one of the intervening groups supporting the federal government's anti-marriage position; CYNTHIA PETERSEN, co-counsel for EGALE; and DAVID SHORTT, one half of one of the couples being represented by EGALE [9:40] . . . . . . . . . . . . . 9:50 Closing Continuity/Credits. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1:30 TOTAL PROGRAM TIME. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 28:55 ----------------------------Please note-------------------------------- Anyone with questions, suggestions, or *news stories* is encouraged to email Coordinating Producer Greg Gordon at TWOradio@aol.co ----------------------------- thanks! --------------------------------- STATION PROMO COPY: ANNCR: NEXT TIME ON "THIS WAY OUT", BRITISH COLUMBIA'S SUPREME COURT WRAPS UP HEARINGS ON CANADIAN SAME-GENDER MARRIAGE, WHILE OPENLY-LESBIAN U.S. CONGRESSMEMBER TAMMY BALDWIN CRITIQUES "CHARITABLE CHOICE"...
