The EuroCourt's finding that the ban violated servicemembers' right to privacy forced the British Ministry of Defence to call an end to the policy in January. This week the EuroCourt awarded the plaintiffs in the military ban lawsuit compensation in excess of 400,000 pounds, and the government has offered compensation for 85 other ousted lesbian and gay servicemembers as well. Along with the national queer advocacy group Stonewall, RANK OUTSIDERS, a lesbigay servicemembers organization, was instrumental in the campaign to overturn the ban. This Way Out's JACKIE CARVER [MVS Radio/Amsterdam] talked with STEVE JOHNSTON earlier this year about Rank Outsiders' work, the roots and extent of homophobia in the British military, America's "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy and the successful military integration of open gays and lesbians in other countries, and the impact of repeal on the British armed forces (with brief intro music from "Military Madness" by GRAHAM NASH) [7:30] . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . >. . . . . . . . . 7:40 SEGMENT #3 - "TWO" I.D. by openly-gay actor Sir Ian McKellen [:20] + Calling the controversial new film "CHUCK AND BUCK" a "gay stalker romantic comedy" is definitely an oversimplification. Still, the latest offering from some of the men behind the movie "American Pie" and TV's critically praised "Freaks and Geeks" is certainly a film that doesn't observe a politically correct protocol. "Chuck and Buck" stars its screenwriter, MIKE WHITE (son of gay Soulforce activist Reverend Mel White) as Buck, a clinging, emotionally stunted gay man bent on renewing a childhood friendship. But wait -- there's a lot more to it than that, as This Way Out's STEVE PRIDE found out from White, his co-stars CHRIS WEITZ (Chuck) and PAUL WEITZ (Sam) and director MIGUEL ARTETA (with dialog and music from the film, including excerpts of "Freedom Of The Heart" by GWENDOLYN SANFORD and "I Will Follow Him" by WHOOPI GOLDBERG) [8:10]. . . . . . . . . 8:30 Closing Continuity/Credits. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1:30 TOTAL PROGRAM TIME. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 29:00 ----------------------------Please note-------------------------------- Anyone with questions, suggestions, or *news stories* is encouraged to email "TWO" Coordinating Producer Greg Gordon at TWOradio@aol.co ----------------------------- thanks! --------------------------------- STATION PROMO COPY: ANNCR: NEXT TIME ON "THIS WAY OUT", SQUIRMS AND INSIGHTS INTO THE CONTROVERSIAL SERIO-COMIC "GAY STALKER MOVIE" "CHUCK AND BUCK", AND THE STORY OF RANK OUTSIDERS AND HOW BRITAIN'S MILITARY BAN WAS LIFTED...
