Long before South Africa became the first country in the world to enshrine sexual orientation anti-discrimination provisions in its Constitution, Cameron was an activist human rights lawyer and organizer for disempowered groups, including gays and lesbians and people with HIV and AIDS. He was appointed to the bench in 1994, the same year he co-edited the South African gay anthology "Defiant Desire." During a visit to Sydney, Australia, Cameron talked with This Way Out's MICHAEL SCHEMBRI at 2SER-FM about the legal victories gays and lesbians have achieved in South Africa and the changing face of the movement there, critiqued some deficient government programs to fight AIDS, and discussed the many challenges to equality that remain (intro/outro music from "Not Yet Uhuru" by LETTA MBULU) [14:45] . . . . . . . >. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 15:20 CLOSING CREDITS/CONTINUITY. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1:35 TOTAL PROGRAM TIME. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 28:55 ----------------------------Please note-------------------------------- Anyone with questions, suggestions, or NEWS stories is encouraged to email "T.W.O."
