As state legislative sessions got under way in January, the Foundation launched an aggressive campaign to have regional activists hand-deliver the publication to their representatives. The report chronicles nearly 300 incidents in 47 states -- almost twice the number in the 1998 edition. Despite the sobering increase in documented incidents, there's progress on several fronts, according to the People For the American Way Foundation's new President RALPH G. NEAS. Before taking that post, he was for two decades the Executive Director of the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights. Neas talks about "Hostile Climate", and the political and educational challenges ahead for the LGBT community, with This Way Out's STEVE PRIDE (intro/outro music from "Freedom To Love" by FAITH NOLAN) [9:55] . . . . . . . . 10:05 ("Hostile Climate 1999" is online at www.HostileClimate.org) SEGMENT #3 - "TWO" I.D. by lesbian singing/songwriting duo ZRAZY (with a brief excerpt from their "Come Out Everybody") [:25] + About 30,000 people attended the launch of this year's SYDNEY GAY & LESBIAN MARDI GRAS FESTIVAL on the steps of the Sydney Opera House on February 11th, and This Way Out's GREG READING was on hand to record the celebration. Among the memorable moments were the keynote speech by the world's first openly transsexual Member of Parliament, New Zealand's GEORGINA BEYER -- who's introduced by Launch co-host JULIE McCROSSIN -- and co-host BOB DOWNE singing along to "I'll Still Call Australia Home" with the SYDNEY GAY & LESBIAN QUIRE [5:45]. >. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 6:00 CLOSING CREDITS/CONTINUITY. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1:35 TOTAL PROGRAM TIME. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 28:50 ======================================*================================= STATION PROMO COPY: ANNCR: NEXT TIME ON "THIS WAY OUT", TRANNY M.P.
