In this statement to the House of Commons on January 12th, Hoon began by recounting the process that led to the change in Britain's policy, which started with the European Court of Human Rights ruling in favor of four servicemembers discharged from the armed forces for homosexuality. He describes the process leading to the Blair Government's unavoidable conclusion that the ban had to go, and how the new policy will work (outro music from "Cool Britannia" by THE BONZO DOG BAND) [6:05] . . . . . 6:10 SEGMENT #3 - "TWO" I.D. by actress Amanda Bearse, "Marcy D'Arcy" on the long-running TV sitcom "Married... With Children" [:10] + Last time on "This Way Out" we met some gay men in Zimbabwe -- including administrator KEITH GODDARD and Operations Manager JOAO of GALZ, GAYS AND LESBIANS OF ZIMBABWE - who described the difficult cultural and political attitudes toward homosexuality they face in their southern African country. The organization's efforts to reach more people and gain more visibility has in some ways been aided by its history of confrontations with the government of outspokenly-homophobic President Robert Mugabe, which date back to the mid-1990s. In the conclusion of his 2-part report from Harare, Radio Netherlands' ERIC BEAUCHEMIN asks Goddard and Joao to review that turbulent history, and to look into the future of their movement (brief outro music from "Fulani Chant" by SWEET HONEY IN THE ROCK) [10:15] . . . . . . 10:25 CLOSING CREDITS/CONTINUITY . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1:35 TOTAL PROGRAM TIME . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 29:00 ----------------------------Please note-------------------------------- Anyone with questions, suggestions, or NEWS stories is encouraged to email "T.W.O."
