He and 200 of his followers met in their home town of Lynchburg, Virginia this weekend with Reverend White and 200 of his lesbigay, transgendered, and non-gay allies. Their goal was to reduce the hateful language both sides have used against each other and the violence such rhetoric can inspire. To understand the strategy Reverend White is following, it's important to know something about his personal history and philosophy. As he was preparing for the weekend gathering, White explained how he came to adopt the "Soulforce" principles of Gandhi and Martin Luther King, Jr. during a conversation with "BUCK" ROWLAND of "QueerRadio" on the University of Kansas' KJHK (http://kjhk.ukans.edu) [excerp ts=4:35] ... then, in an interview with This Way Out's LUCIA CHAPPELLE, White elaborates on the "Soulforce" approach to conflict resolution (also on his webpage at soulforce.org), and describes the events of October 23rd-25th: overcoming the tensions inherent in such a meeting, the process of both sides getting to know each other as human beings rather than faceless adversaries, what he thinks has been accomplished thus far, and the impact he believes the historic weekend will have on LGBT lives in the future (transition music from the Rowland to Chappelle interviews from "We Can Work It Out" by THE BEATLES; outro music from "Step By Step" by SWEET HONEY IN THE ROCK) [11:40] >................................... 16:15 CLOSING CREDITS/CONTINUITY ......................................... 1:35 TOTAL PROGRAM TIME ................................................. 28:50 ----------------------------Please note-------------------------------- Anyone with questions, suggestions, or NEWS stories is encouraged to email "T.W.O."
