Earlier this year, the Vatican halted the activities of New Ways Ministries founders Rev. Robert Nugent and Sister Jeannine Gramick. In late August, FATHER PETER LIUZZI, Cardinal Roger Mahoney's liaison to the gay and lesbian communities of the Los Angeles Archdiocese, resigned from the National Association of Catholic Diocesan Lesbian and Gay Ministries, and he was joined by an auxiliary bishop who had no public comment. Father Liuzzi, however, told reporters that the national group had been overtaken by activists on both sides of the issue. Liuzzi -- a self-described centrist -- discusses the Catholic "intrinsically evil" doctrine, and the competing attitudes toward gays and lesbians in the Church, with FRANK STOLTZE [KPFK-FM/Los Angeles] (intro/ outro music from "Stuck In The Middle With You" by STEALERS WHEEL) [6:35] ............................................. 6:50 SEGMENT #3 - "TWO" I.D. by openly-gay Olympic diving champ Greg Louganis [:05] + Newcomers to the Australian Senate traditionally get the opportunity to make a "maiden" speech -- 20 minutes to present their views while their peers remain silent. Australian Democrat BRIAN GREIG, the newly elected representative for West Australia, has many political interests, but he chose to devote most of his time to an impassioned plea for passage of federal civil rights legislation to protect gays and lesbians from discrimination and to recognize their relationships -- and he used his own life story to make his points. This Way Out provides some highlights from that speech [9:25] ................................. 9:30 CLOSING CREDITS/CONTINUITY ......................................... 1:30 TOTAL PROGRAM TIME ................................................. 28:50 ----------------------------Please note-------------------------------- Anyone with questions, suggestions, or NEWS stories is encouraged to email "T.W.O."
