The 13 "GAY OLD GIRLS" featured in ZSA ZSA GERSHICK`s collection of lesbian memoirs provide a rare glimpse into the lives of women-loving-women in such diverse places and periods as Alabama in the `20s, Chicago in the `30s, New York in the `40s, Texas in the `50s, and San Francisco in the `60s. They range from women who were openly lesbian from adolescence to women who came out after first leading wife-and-mother lives -- and in at least one case while continuing to do so. This Way Out`s CHRIS ALLEN chats with oral herstory gatherer Gershick about her landmark work (and highlights the lives of 3 women in the book: `50s lesbian pulp fiction writer Valerie Taylor; suburban housewife Jane Stevenson, who lived happily with her husband, son and female lover; and EDYTHE EYDE, publisher of the pioneering lesbian newsletter "Vice Versa", whose original music -- excerpts from "I`m Gonna Sit Right Down And Write My Butch A Letter", "A Fairer Tomorrow", and "Faerie In Tulare" -- are heard during this segment; and with dramatized snippets from the book performed by LEIGH CURRAN and WINSHIP COOK) [15:40] >.............................................................................. >... 15:55 CLOSING CREDITS/CONTINUITY >.............................................................................. >............... 1:20 TOTAL PROGRAM TIME >.............................................................................. >............................... 28:45 -----------------------------Please note-------------------------------- Anyone with questions, suggestions, or NEWS stories is encouraged to email "T.W.O."
